The NA Technical Service and Development (TS&D) group has an exciting opportunity for a Packaging & Specialty PlasticsAssociate TS&D ScientistORTS&D Scientistlocated inFreeport, TX. The TS&D group supports over 5 Billion lb/yr and 150+ customers. This position is within theLaminating Adhesives and Coatings segment. Dow's Laminating Adhesives business has a wide portfolio of adhesives and coatings for the flexible packaging and industrial lamination markets. This includes products in water-based, solventless, and solvent-based laminating adhesives as well as heat seal coatings for a wide range of packaging applications.

Associate TS&D Scientists provide the critical link between customers and Dow’s technical expertise for troubleshooting, supporting processing of existing products at customers, defining new product applications, and developing new products to meet customers’ needs.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Provides technical customer service in cooperation with Sales based on identified business needs and in agreement between Sales and TS&D Leadership.

  • Ensures product quality and performance standards meet customers’ needs through continuous evaluation of product.  Handles customers’ specification requests, and accesses QA/QC data and information.

  • Covers immediate action/troubleshooting at customers in close cooperation with Sales, research and manufacturing activities, including sampling, identifying problem source (at customers or at Dow) and reporting.

  • Leads, participates in, and follows application and product development activities. Leads implementation at core customers in cooperation with other TS&D colleagues and in alignment with the business strategy.

  • Tracks competitive technology and identifies new products/opportunities in the market. Initiates sampling and performance benchmarking to ensure broad technical knowledge of competition, including competitive literature.

In this role, the employee must work closely with customers to ensure existing products are running smoothly and to position new products and technologies.  This includes possessing the interpersonal skills and organizational intuition to successfully interface at multiple levels and functions within the customer’s organization.  This also includes travel to production trials and business meetings in partnership with a sales account executive.  Finally, this also requires excellent communication with stakeholders in sales and the research functions.

In addition to customer interactions, the employee will work on multiple product development projects including elements of product design and composition.  The results of these projects will then be documented in reports, communicated to internal business teams and at professional conferences in presentations, inventions will documented and patented, and new products will be scaled up in conjunction with research and manufacturing to be launched commercially.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Process and Fabrication or related field is required.

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience including previous customer interaction experience with a broad knowledge of application testing fundamentals

  • Domestic travel within this role is expected approximately 10-30% of the time.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
