L.L. Bean is currently searching for an Assistant Manager - Accounting to join the Finance team located in Freeport, Maine.
We welcome the opportunity for this role to be hybrid working some days from home and some at the corporate headquarters in Freeport, Maine. We are also willing to consider this as a remote position, to be based remotely in the following states: Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin.
Position Purpose: In this important position this person will s upervise assigned accounting personnel. Coordinate and administer financial reporting, analysis and management reporting activities. Assist in the review of financial results with senior management, helping to identify strategies necessary to meet financial goals.
Responsibilities
Supervise accounting personnel:
Make employment decisions/recommendations.
Establish performance objectives, assign, and direct work, monitor work and appraise performance.
Coach and develop employees in job related skills through work assignment, direct training and regular feedback, both positive and negative.
Administer/recommend wages and salaries.
Resolve routine personnel problems following company policies and procedures.
Assist employees in identifying personal development needs and assessing available resources.
Communicate company policies and procedures.
Monitor and adjust staffing levels to meet work requirements.
Prepare, maintain and update personnel records.
Reduce work related injuries and illnesses and associated lost work time.
Oversee Accounting functions, including:
Revenue and right to return accounting (ASC 606)
Lease accounting (ASC 842)
Fixed asset and prepaid asset accounting (ASC 350/805)
Expense accruals
Duty reclamation and audit processing
Research technical accounting issues
Support the financial reporting process:
Assist in the monthly, tax, and year end closing process and supervise staff
Communicate timelines to ensure expectations are clear, and follow up as necessary
Assist in the preparation of company financial statements in accordance with US GAAP – balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows
Review and evaluate current accounting procedures and offer suggestions for improvement
Work with senior management to review monthly and year-end financial statements
Ensure the quality and integrity of data, data usage and analyses
Assist in reporting requirements related to year-end audits and tax close
Review work of others for completeness and accuracy in accordance with internal policy and US GAAP
Support the year-end financial statement audit with audit firm. Work with auditors to address issues as they arise.
Update and improve existing reports to provide maximum usefulness and accuracy of data
Define and recommend controls to ensure the quality and integrity of data and reporting
Finance representation on project teams as necessary
Project lead for implementing new accounting standards

Education: 4-Year Bachelors Degree
Experience: 5-7 Years
Skills and Qualifications
BA/BS in Accounting (any business degree with CPA)
CPA Required
