NATURE OF WORK The Combination Inspector will support the initiatives of the Building Division and Community and Economic Development Department. This position will operate as a team member and work individually on a variety of projects, and on some occasions will function as a project lead. The ideal candidate will be effective and thrive in a relationship building role while also exemplifying the FRED values of the Town.

The Combination Inspector serves under the direction and general leadership of the Chief Building Official. The Combination Inspector performs professional project management and inspections; develops and maintains relationships with the development community, and is able to address difficult or contentious issues in a constructive manner.

The individual in this position must be able to establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and act as an am ambassador by understanding and fostering the organizations mission and vision.

• Understand all state and local building codes and regulations pertaining to the building and construction of new buildings.
• Inspect all buildings under construction ensuring compliance with all adopted building codes.
• Gain compliance with applicable codes and ordinances tactfully.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with other employees, building owners, tradesmen, contractors and the general public.
• Complete plan reviews on residential and commercial plans as assigned.
• Work independently on field inspections and plan reviews making independent decisions utilizing technical judgement.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Works independently on field inspections and makes decisions exercising technical judgement; consults with a technical superior on more difficult and unusual cases. - Submits work to periodic checks and reviews by a technical superior. - Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Inspects new and existing residential, commercial and industrial installations and equipment for compliance with applicable state and local codes and ordinances. - Issues correction notices where installations or equipment are found to be defective or in violation of applicable codes and ordinances. - Makes recommendations on correct methods of installation and construction. - May review submitted plans and specifications for compliance with applicable state and local codes and ordinances. - Confers with contractors regarding the design of new residential or commercial buildings as well as the alteration of existing residential and commercial buildings within the Town. - Possesses a valid driver's license and operates a Town motor vehicle in a safe and responsible manner. - Maintains regular and punctu l attendance. - Must be able to operate tape measures, levels, computer, mobile tablet, calculator, telephone (office and cellular), light ladders, small hand tools, office equipment, radios, boots, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves and light-duty pick-up truck or SUV.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING - Graduation from high school or GED. - Possess International Code Council certifications in residential and commercial inspections; or the ability to obtain certifications within six months of hire as a condition of employment. - Desire to obtain International Code Council certifications in residential and commercial plan review. - Possession of a valid driver's license and a safe driving record prior to start of employment. - Journeyman Plumbing License highly preferred.
