NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE Software Engineer in FRANKLIN, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Franklin, WI will develop, design, upgrade, implement, and modernize critical applications and IT products. Collaborate with product owners, engineers, and designers to enhance and modernize top tier technical applications. Apply understanding of software life cycle and design patterns to understand technical features being built. Collaborate with engineering team, monitor live systems, fix bugs, write new features, maintain documentation, participate in planning sessions, and mentor junior engineers. Apply web application design principles in coding, infrastructure, and middleware. Mainframe coding with PL/I, COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, and CICS. Develop mainframe software using Changeman, File Manager, debug, fault analyzer, and APA tool. Develop Mainframe REST services for infrastructure and middleware modernization products. Follow Agile scrum software development life cycle within all development activities. Analyze business requirements and develop solutions using agile or waterfall methodologies. Collaborate with testing team, and other enterprise application architects to ensure application changes meets specified requirements by performing unit testing, integration testing, volume, and regression testing. Collaborate with release management and quality control management to ensure application software changes are deployed in test, stage, and production environments using standard organizational processes. Telecommuting permitted 2 days per week. Requires a Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or a related field plus 5 years of experience as a software developer or a related occupation. Experience must include 5 years with each of the following: (1) mainframe coding with PL/I, COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, and CICS; (2) developing mainframe software using Changeman, File Manager, debug, fault analyzer, and APA tool; (3) analyzing business requirements and developing solutions using agile or waterfall methodologies; (4) performing peer review of code and design; (5) conducting unit, regression, and performance testing; and (6) deploying and supporting changes to business applications and infrastructure.
