SUMMARY
The CNC Setup Machinist II uses strong technical skills to set up, work, and monitor CNC machines as required to produce parts that meet dimensional, quality, and customer specifications. The machinist also demonstrates safe work practices and identifies areas of potential concern to management. The machinist performs additional production processes, including grinding, assembly, soldering, and bonding.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Proficiently set up and operated a CNC machine to produce components according to customer requirements, performing all machine set-ups, tool changes, and offsets as required.
Collaborate with Departmental Support Staff, Programming, Quality, and Technical Support to develop new processes and products and isolate, troubleshoot, and resolve non-conforming results.
Suggest and participate in implementing process improvements, setup reduction initiatives, and scrap reduction activities.
Perform all first piece and in-process inspections using measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, high gages, and other necessary inspection equipment.
To meet product specifications, prepare programs, and perform minor to intermediate adjustments to program inputs, including minor tool changes and offsets.
Assist in developing and maintaining work instructions and process sheets, ensuring paperwork is organized, detailed, and current.
Complete necessary paperwork and documentation to ensure quality conformance, the proper movement and control of the product, and all quality-related inspection requirements.
Work safely and actively participate in all plant safety directives while adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures.
Participate in team activities, including LEAN projects and activities and other continuous improvement activities.
Cover other positions as the production lead and superior instructed.
Set up and operated multiple machines within the machine shop.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Highschool degree or equivalent required.
3+ years of CNC machining experience.
Proficient in multiple controls, such as Siemens, Fanuc, conversational, etc.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Conversational in any other language preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Basic arithmetic: add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
JOB SKILLS
Beginner in MS Office
Knowledge of ERP systems, SAP preferred.
Ability to learn and apply advanced technical concepts.
Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems with limited information.
Able to communicate effectively with management and co-workers to promote strong working relationships and create an environment focused on teamwork.
Flexible with work and job assignments and willing to perform any function.
Must be dependable and available to work overtime when required.
Excellent blueprint reading skills, including GD&T per standard.
Ability to use precision and portable coordinate measuring equipment to take accurate measurements.
Knowledge of CNC G&M Code manual input for machine controls.
Experience using and programming manual, semi-automated, or CNC-automated tools and machines.
Knowledge of the properties of plastic material (preferred).
Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, engineering orders, and technical manuals.
Support the continuous flow of products within the manufacturing process by training and assisting employees of the same or lower classification level.
Routinely moves product within the immediate manufacturing work area, including across aisles, using shop-assigned equipment as required. Completes transactions necessary to move product to the next operation. On an exception basis, it moves the product to the next operation within a building.
Concurrently perform related functions to provide complete hardware under engineering specifications, including (e.g. operating multiple machines simultaneously, deburr part surface, milling, drilling, boring, honing, grinding, and fastening).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical requirements outlined below indicate those necessary to fulfill this position's core responsibilities. While performing job duties, the employee will regularly engage in activities such as using hands to finger, handle, or feel and communicating verbally. Additionally, the employee will frequently need to reach with hands and arms while standing and walking as part of the role. Occasional lifting and movement of objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds may be required. This position also demands specific vision capabilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
ASTM F–2412–2005, ANSI Z41–1999, or ANSI Z41–1991 rated safety toe shoes in specific areas.
Clear ANSI Z87.1 safety-rated glasses in specific areas.
Hearing protection in specific locations.
Ability to compile with JSA in specific areas.
