The Cigna Group Software Engineering Lead - Evernorth Health Services - Hybrid in Franklin, Tennessee

Cigna Group is one of the largest health insurance carriers in the US commercial market and working with Cigna Stop Loss Technology Solutions provides candidates with an opportunity to understand the US healthcare market while delivering technology solutions that make Cigna's Stop Loss insurance product function.

In this role, the Software Engineering Lead will be responsible for building and leading a highly talented team that is focused on using technology, and product design principles to innovate and deliver modern solutions aligned to strategic initiatives on Stop Loss. In this role you will collaborate with business leadership and technology partners to define and execute on a shared vision. You authentically engage with your team and matrix partners to ensure ongoing alignment and delivery success. You are dedicated to technical excellence for yourself, your team, and the software you deliver.

The ideal candidate should have 5+ years of experience in building and leading high performing teams and 8+ years of experience in software engineering, preferably in health care or a related industry.

*Must have extensive experience in AWS and OpenShift Application Development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical team lead as part of an Agile scrum team

  • Ability to learn Stop Loss and work directly with business stakeholders in understanding needs and requirements and demonstrate that on the software products build.

  • Ability to work with Enterprise Architecture and ensure alignment with broader technology strategy

  • Responsible for software product engineering deliverables and activities including solution architecture reviews/recommendations, design, development, testing, and automation

  • Leverage technical expertise and experience to ensure we are building scalable products that are highly performant and secure

  • Ensure tech stack selection and software development patterns align to the technology strategy and are optimized for the business use case

  • Focus on automation and exploring opportunities to leverage and benefit from Gen AI

  • Inculcate a continuous improvement culture that is constantly monitoring the performance, availability, capacity, cost, security, and quality of the solutions implemented

  • Collaborate with peers to build complimenting software products, sharing learnings and inner sourcing to reduce duplication and create synergy

  • Foster an engineering mindset culture that is focused on increasing business value velocity, building products of high quality that can scale, and user experiences that support end to end workflows that are rich with insights and simple to use

  • Stay current on technology in order to capitalize on new capabilities that can advance business

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect are preferred. Strong knowledge of cloud computing concepts

  • Typically, 8+ years of experience in IT, specifically within application development or integration services development. Experience with the following domains:Web application development experienceDatabase, Data Modelling & data base stored procedures experienceETL processes and other data transformation and integrations

Industry / Domain Experience Needed:

  • 5+ years’ experience in leading engineering teams focused on software delivery, experience working with global teams a plus

  • 8+ years’ experience in software engineering, preferability in health care or related field

  • Excellent ability to develop and build teams by assessing quality talent and motivating/inspiring others

  • Proven strategic thinker that can successfully partner in a highly matrixed environment

  • Experience in scripting languages such as: JavaScript, Python, R, Ruby, Perl, etc.

  • Experience in web development frameworks such as: React, Angular, Vue, etc.

  • Experience with data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, etc.) and working with large data sets

  • Experience in data modelling, ETL processes and database management systems

  • Experience architecting enterprise-class, cloud-based systems with background in application development, including mobile technologies, web services, and back-end application infrastructure

  • Proven track record of delivering software engineering initiatives, IT-application initiatives, and cross IT/business initiatives

  • Demonstrated success with delivering products using modern software techniques

  • Applied expertise in software engineering methodologies including automation and CI/CD

  • Experience in scalability and performance tuning

  • Experience scoping complex projects/capabilities and driving through to completion, identifying risks and improvement opportunities

Primary Skills:

  • OOP and Enterprise Integration Patterns

  • Service Oriented Architecture (Web Services, REST, ESB)

  • Message / Event driven architecture (Kafka, AWS solutions)

  • Relational Database development & tuning (MS SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS)

  • Performance Testing and Tuning

  • Container-based and Serverless approaches (Docker, EC2, ECS, AWS)

Additional Skills:

  • Analytical Skills: Candidate must be able to recognize the needs of customers and create simple solutions that answer those needs. Ability to document analysis and scenarios is critical and collaborate on acceptance criteria with product\stakeholder.

  • Communication: Candidate must be able to clearly communicate their ideas to peers, stakeholders, and management.

  • Creativity: Creativity is needed to help invent new ways of approaching problems and developing innovative applications as well as bringing experience from other industries.

  • Customer-Service: If dealing directly with clients and customers, candidate would need good customer service skills and consultant mentality to answer questions and fix issues.

  • Attention to Detail: Applications have many parts, and all must work together for the application to function.

  • Problem-Solving: As issues come up, candidate must be able to make decisions that move the project forward.

  • Teamwork: Candidate must work well with others as part of a distributed agile (SAFe) team of developers, analysts, QA, and more as well as mentor junior team members and engineers to improve team effectiveness.

  • Industry Experience: Prior work experience within Insurance, Health Insurance, or Stop Loss preferred
