How will you make an impact in this role?

Our team is growing and we are looking for a Director to join our French Market Compliance team to lead on key regulatory compliance matters on an advisory basis, but also to operationalise key compliance program activities such as testing or regulatory reporting. The candidate should seek to ascertain good compliance outcomes in line with prudential and conduct requirements, providing subject matter expertise and managing regulatory engagements and submissions relating to these areas.

This is an exciting and challenging position with the opportunity to lead and shape the strategy for managing and working closely with senior and specialist colleagues in the various business areas

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the French Non AML Compliance Advisory team consisting of Anti-corruption, Regulatory, Testing & Controls.

  • Deputize for the Market Compliance Officer (“MCO”) in attending legal entity governance committee meetings and providing 2 nd line compliance approvals where needed.

  • Provide expert compliance risk assessment and guidance to both all Legal Entities in the market and all business units and functions in the market with respect to the design and implementation of products, processes, services and controls to ensure compliance with all applicable areas of law. This includes Consumer Protection and Fairness, Data Protection and Privacy, Payments Regulation, Prudential Regulation.

  • Determine applicability of new laws, regulations and regulatory guidance to the business units and functions in close partnership with the General Counsel’s Office. Communicate requirements to relevant 1 st and 2 nd line teams in a meaningful way to enable them to understand what actions need to be taken to comply. Oversee implementation of changes required to comply by the regulatory effective date.

  • Provide timely, pragmatic and balanced regulatory Compliance advice on regulatory risks, including through participation at Operational Risk Committees, and other local legal entity governance committees and forums. Ensure appropriate communication to business teams and timely escalation to senior business leaders, where appropriate.

  • To address timely all internal Audit findings and follow up/ remediation actions.

  • Support the issue management program by providing Compliance advice on Operational Risk Events to determine Compliance impact, remediation and control enhancements required to meet regulatory expectations, and maintain oversight of action plans implemented by 1 st line teams through to event closure.

  • Support the MCO as needed with engagements with regulators with respect to information requests, thematic reviews, supervisory engagements, regulatory exams and other feedback from the regulator.

  • Create and maintain compliance policies, procedures, Tier 2 mandatory training and communications programs appropriate for business activities and inherent compliance risks across the market.

  • Demonstrate strong leadership behaviours such as collaboration, influencing skills and intellectual curiosity.

Required skills

  • More than 10 years experience as a senior leader in Compliance within a financial institution.

  • Perfect command in English & French.

  • More than 5 years leadership experience

  • Have led regulatory liaison teams at either a financial services firm, or been an active lead in a consultancy, regulatory body or law firm

  • Strong knowledge of the payments and consumer credit regulatory framework in the France and Europe

  • Ability to interpret the regulatory requirements, guidance, and developments and clearly communicate implications to a range of audiences, including Executive Management

  • Strong analytical skills and experience with reporting, ability to drive insights from the data and provide actionable steps

  • Excellent relationship building skills, with a track record that clearly demonstrates cultural awareness and an ability to build lasting partnerships across local and market teams.

  • Must be self-motivated, dependable, adaptable and detail oriented with a proven ability to work independently or within a team environment.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills and must be able to manage competing priorities under demanding deadlines.

  • Capacity to translate complex regulations into clear and applicable guidance.
