Reference #: 4404795 THE POSITION Are you a highly motivated welder who enjoys teaching others your expertise? The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI), Frackville is seeking a Corrections Welding Trade Instructor to join our team. The purpose of this position is to supervise and instruct inmates in a structured classroom with on-the-job training in the welding trade. DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Correction Welding Trade Instructor for the DOC, you are responsible for shop instruction and on-the-job training of inmates assigned to the welding shop of SCI Frackville.

Duties include the responsibility of supervising and providing care, custody, and control of inmates. You are provided instruction to include the standard practices, methods, and procedures of the welding trade. This includes the use of arc, gas, tack welding, and the techniques of silver soldering and brazing procedures. You also plan and assign work to inmates receiving welding training, review and inspect work in progress, and complete all welding as required for the maintenance repairs of all steel and metal work throughout the plant. In addition, you are responsible for keeping and maintaining repair records, training progress, inventory, wage, and attendance records.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 40-hour work week Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55 Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $48,425.00 (before taxes). Four years of experience in arc and gas welding of various components or structural frameworks; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the welding trade; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the welding trade.
