Job Description

Gilead HIV Development:

For more than three decades, Gilead has developed transformational therapies for the treatment of HIV, including Atripla®, the first single tablet regimen, Biktarvy®, the number one prescribed HIV regimen in the US, and Sunlenca®, the first treatment agent dosed just twice per year. A robust pipeline of innovative HIV treatment agents in preclinical through Phase 3 investigation aims to transform HIV therapy over the next decade. Gilead’s HIV cure program includes multiple preclinical- and clinical-stage agents.

The Position:

VP, Clinical Development, HIV Treatment will lead a team of 12+ clinicians and scientists across early and late development for all HIV therapeutics. This position will serve as Franchise Head for HIV Treatment in the Development Organization and be accountable for the overall HIV Development strategy and the conception, design and execution of all HIV treatment clinical trials from Phase 1 through Phase 4.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute a clear, integrated clinical development strategy utilizing a mixture of internal and outsourced resources

  • Responsible for all scientific aspects of conceptualizing and planning Phase 1 through Phase 4 clinical trials, supervising Global Development Leads working within matrixed, cross-functional teams

  • Represent Gilead externally in scientific interactions and in meetings with regulatory agencies, build and maintain key opinion leader relationships

  • Partner with key internal stakeholders, including Research, Commercial, and Business Development

  • Recognized across the company as a key resource for HIV disease area and development expertise

Education/Qualifications:

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with 10+ years experience in clinical development in industry

  • Domain expertise in HIV or Infectious Diseases preferred

  • Demonstrated track record of clinical trial design and execution from IND through NDA

  • Clear, transparent communicator with strong leadership and presentation skills

  • Outstanding motivation, creativity, analytical thinking and a strong commitment to productivity and growth of direct reports and teams

  • Flexibility to work in a rapidly growing matrixed environment. Strong leadership skills with an ability to set a vision, lead change, and mentor others. Strategic thinker with ability to formulate, develop and execute clinical strategies. Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with, focus, resolve conflict and achieve outcomes in a diverse environment.
