Manufacturing Innovation Composites Engineer

Bell is seeking a self-motivated, experienced Sr Manufacturing Innovation Composites Engineer to join Bell’s Manufacturing Innovation, Rotors and Composites team.

The Manufacturing Innovation Engineer will lead R&D projects to develop and mature Composite technologies and drive concurrent engineering efforts in support of Bell’s various programs.

This position will be based at Bell’s state of the art Manufacturing Technology Center in Ft. Worth, TX.

What you’ll be doing as a Manufacturing Innovation Composites Engineer:

  • Bring prior experience and an open mind to develop advanced solutions in Composites manufacturing and design. Participate in cross-functional teams from conceptualization to implementation.

  • Resolve technical challenges by providing creative and innovative solutions, while helping reinforce a strong culture of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Producibility.

  • Lead research projects that advance technologies related to Composite Manufacturing and Inspection. Drive the full R&D cycle from the preparation of manufacturing technology development plans to the full execution of the project and the documentation of results with a thorough test report.

  • Manage relationships with suppliers and support Capex activities which may include creating SOWs, project/delivery status, external supplier visits, etc.

  • Mentor junior engineers with your know-how in composite structures manufacturing and design. May be called upon to represent Bell in industry committees or associations.

Qualifications

Skills You Bring To this Role:

  • At least 5 years of experience in Aerospace or Defense Composite manufacturing or related manufacturing industry to include one or more of the following:

1.Manufacturing of Composites primary structure or rotor blade construction with an understanding of materials and engineering properties

2.Secondary bonding of Composite structures, surface preparation, bonding dissimilar materials

3.Thermosets, toughened resin systems, thermoplastics, elevated temperature systems, adhesive systems, cure cycles

4.Composites product and/or tooling design, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

5.Composites machining, routing, core carving, drilling, fastening

6.Composites automation processes and equipment

  • Prior experience with project management.

  • Ability to prioritize work, strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a team player mindset.

  • Excellent communicator must be able to build and maintain effective relationships with customers, internal and external suppliers, and brief leaders/customers.

What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Materials Science preferred) or related technical discipline. Advanced degrees will be considered as additional experience. Related degrees with relevant experience will also be considered.×

  • Prefer 10 years of experience in the technical disciplines above.

  • Exposure to leading medium-to-large impact projects in a flight technology environment.

  • Exposure to Capital management, project scheduling and project or program budgeting.

  • Proficient in CAD/CAM, ideally CATIA V6/3DX.
