Department of Defense Education Activity Maintenance Worker in Fort Stewart, Georgia

Summary About the Position: This position is located in Fort Stewart, Georgia. Certificate requirement: Musts submit a copy of a Chloro-Fluorocarbon (CFC) certificate with application package for consideration. Failure to provide a copy of a CFC licensure/certification with application will result in ineligible rating. Responsibilities Clean, adjust, and lubricate equipment. Perform operational checks on commercial air conditioning and refrigeration units. Create estimates for major repairs documenting extent of repair required. Perform inspection of equipment to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Repair roofs by replacing shingles or making repairs to composition roofing. Use tools common to a variety of trades such as: hammers, tin snips, pipe wrenches, planers, and flaring tools. Stain or paint furniture and other wood surfaces. Repair or replace defective wiring, light fixtures, and outlets. Responsible for operational plumbing inspections on valves and fittings. Install, open, clean, repair, replace, and perform lock system maintenance. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: performing preventative maintenance, inspecting buildings and property for necessary maintenance, using multiple trades to include locksmith general maintenance/repair, carpentry, roof repair, painting, sheet metal work, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical repair. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate physical activity is required in intermittent lifting and carrying of repair materials and tiring working positions are encountered. The work requires considerable standing and walking. Work requires climbing, stooping, and working in cramped places. May be assigned to perform motor vehicle operator duties: Drives trucks up to 10,000 pounds GVW capacity to transport supplies, and equipment to and from work site or delivery site. Performs vehicle preventive maintenance (PM); completes PM Service records and dispatch; completes operators' accident reports in case of accident. WORKING CONDITIONS: Tasks are performed inside and outside. Hands become soiled by contact with tools, materials and equipment. Gloves and safety goggles are worn occasionally when using power tools. Unpleasant odors are encountered occasionally. Inside work areas are sometimes damp and drafty or subject to inadequate ventilation. Incumbent is subject to cuts and bruises during repair operations. There is danger of injury from falls from ladders or roofs. Education Additional Information Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Salary is based on the local prevailing rate.
