Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service About the Position: This is a Military Technician position with the 88th Readiness Division, Equipment Concentration Site 33, located at Fort Riley, KS. (This position may offer a $15,000 recruitment bonus) This position requires an active membership as a Soldier in the Army Reserve before start date. Responsibilities Operate a variety of diesel and gasoline powered equipment to include generators, wheeled/track vehicles, and semi-trailer combinations up to 70 ton capacity. Operate various types of forklifts ranging from 2,000 pound to 50,000 pound capacity rough terrain, and various types of wheeled and tracked cranes up through 25 tons. Utilize various types of forklifts and equipment to complete loading, unloading, warehousing, and preparing equipment and supplies for transport. Perform preventative maintenance checks and services. Perform operator maintenance to include servicing vehicle braking systems, checking vehicle lights, and taking oil samples. Receive incoming warehouse items and equipment and check them for damage and serviceability. Issue/receive equipment. Store equipment in the warehouse. Load outgoing equipment. Prepare and post documents for the Army Oil Analysis Program and dispatching equipment. Prepare accountability documents and warehouse reports. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for DoD Maintenance Activities. Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: operation of gasoline powered equipment and warehousing tasks. Operate equipment to include generators and wheeled vehicles, perform preventive vehicle maintenance to include checking fluid levels and tire pressure, and performing basic warehousing tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort Required: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require the worker to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Works at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls when driving, turning, stopping and starting the forklifts and motor vehicles and in raising, lowering and tilting the forklift loads. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, material and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Subject to working outdoors during periods of inclement weather. Is exposed to serious injuries while operating vehicles over public roads and on the installation. Works on concrete floors and in drafty areas. May be exposed to fumes, fluids, dirt, battery acids, etc., resulting in bruises, cuts, burns, and skin irritation. Wearing of hearing protection and other safety equipment is required during all periods of exposure to hazardous conditions. Education Additional Information This position requires an active membership as a Soldier in the Army Reserve before a start date can be set. This position offers a $15,000 recruitment bonus to individuals who are newly appointed. You are considered newly appointed if this is your first appointment as a Federal Government civilian employee or if you have a minimum of a 90 day break in service from a previous Federal civilian position. You may qualify with a break in service of less than 90 days only if your previous Federal civilian appointment was a time-limited or NOT a permanent appointment. Your recruitment bonus will be made in four payments. First payment of $5,000 upon EOD. Second payment of $2,500 at my one year anniversary. Third payment of $2,500 at my second year anniversary. Fourth payment of $5,000 at my third year anniversary. This bonus requires a four year service obligation to the Army Reserve Military Technician Program. If you fail to serve the specified period, you may be subject to repay the agency recruitment incentive.
