UTE INDIAN TRIBE Water Rights Field Hydrologist in FORT DUCHESNE, Utah

The Field Hydrologist assists the Director of Water Rights (Director) who is the executive arm of the Ute Indian Water Rights Commission ("Commission") established by the Business Committee and is directly responsible to the Director for monitoring water use activities in the Uintah Basin and the Green River and to advise the Director with respect to hydrologic conditions and the effect thereon by water uses and changes of water uses. The Field Hydrologist shall also take a major role in establishing and monitoring water use and protection plans, using and developing hydrological data, for the Water Rights Department and to support the Director in assisting the investigations that the Commission may need in order to support their dispute resolution role and overall direction and planning role for Tribal water rights and uses.

  • Be proficient with excel and general computer input in support of water related database systems used by the Department. Familiarity with GIS and google mapping with database overlays would be helpful.
  • Have excellent communication skills and ability to manage, apply and demonstrate hydrological information in support of the Water Rights Department.
  • Have sufficient organization skills to organize and manage the maps and other documentation files for input into the technical water monitoring systems of the department as well as the document retention and retrieval systems of the Department.
  • Have a bachelor's degree in engineering, ecology, environmental studies, geology, agriculture or landscaping with at least 2 year's experience in successfully working in a water use field where hydrologic science and/or water systems applications were a main focus of the business or government entity .
  • An accreditation in hydrology is preferred
