Description of Work Unit

The Colorado State University Equine Reproduction Laboratory is part of the Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Sciences within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at CSU . The CSU Equine Reproduction Program has developed leading-edge equine reproduction techniques for over 45 years. Techniques such as collection of semen and artificial insemination, recovery and transfer of equine embryos, shipping cooled semen, and shipping cooled embryos are now routine in the equine industry, due in large part to the research, education, and outreach efforts of the CSU Equine Reproduction Laboratory.

Position Summary

The Research Associate I ( RAI ) acts as the Clinical Laboratory Assistant for the Equine Reproduction Laboratory ( ERL ) Mare Services. This position is responsible for assisting the clinical laboratory manager with all aspects of the clinical mare program including client owned mares as well as teaching and research horses. The RAI acts as one of the contacts for the clinical operations and works to liaise with clients regarding Mare Services. This position helps with, and directly participates in, all levels of teaching and general education ( DVM students, graduate, and undergraduate).

This is an essential worker position and must be willing and able to report to work as directed to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay or interruption.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Required Job Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Equine Sciences, Animal Sciences or a related field is required

  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Experience working with veterinarians in a training setting (Continuing Education, graduate education, new hire training of skilled techniques, etc.)

  • CSU equine research experience strongly preferred
