HP Inc. Principal Software Engineer - OMEN Gaming Hub in Fort Collins, Colorado

The Principal Software Development Engineer role on the OMEN Gaming Hub Team is for people who are passionate about gaming and data and who want to work with a global and diverse team of engineers who make amazing features for millions of gamers.

As a Principal Software Development Engineer, you will work on complex and challenging problems, come up with new ideas and solutions, and use your game industry experience and big data and analytics skills to improve a consumer-facing application-a software engineer who thinks like a data/analytics expert. You will also provide guidance and leadership to other teams and projects in HP, improve the team's processes and policies, work independently, and use your expertise to enhance feature delivery and long-term engineering, and mentor and coach other team members.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Expertise of complex software systems, specifically targeted at the consumer/gaming market

  • Deep experience in software development, systems engineering, or software general engineering.

  • Data Science/Analytics/Engineering experience involving large complex datasets and models.

  • Deep experience in cloud services (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud)

  • Strong knowledge of C#, Java, Python, R, and/or C++ development

  • Expert business acumen and knowledge of root cause analysis and problem detection.

  • Experience designing and developing software applications design tools and languages.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in overall architecture of software applications for products and solutions.

  • Evaluating and selecting forms and processes for software applications testing and methodology, including writing and execution of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.

  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at the business unit and executive levels.

Scope & Impact

  • Partners with product and other engineering teams to define business requirements, product design, deployment, and adoption plans.

  • Acts as a subject matter expert and advise various internal, partner, and customer teams on the needs and requirements of target markets.

  • Provides guidance and mentorship for other team members, providing a big data perspective

Complexity:

  • High: Extensive cross-functional/cross-organizational senior management interface; deals with complex strategic issues.

  • Unique mastery and recognized authority on relevant subject matter knowledge including technologies, theories, and techniques. Contributes to the development of innovative principles and ideas. Successfully operates in HP's most complex disciplines.

  • Provides highly innovative solutions. Leads large, cross-division functional teams or projects that affect the organization's long-term goals and objectives. May participate in cross-division, multi-function teams. Provides mentoring and guidance to lower-level employees.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area or demonstrated competence.

  • 10+ years of big data experience (Data Science/Data Engineering/AI)

  • 10+ years of experience with Windows Application development (Win32, UWP, etc.) and cloud backend services

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is $140,650.00 -- $200,000.00 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
