Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is a land grant institution with a student enrollment of approximately 32,000 students in over 150 programs. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.

The Department of Construction Management serves one of the largest construction management programs in the country with approximately 800 undergraduate students, 20 graduate students, 21 faculty and 7 professional staff. The Department offers both a bachelors and masters degrees in construction management. The undergraduate program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. Academic advising, internship and career placement support is provided by professional staff. The department engages in teaching, scholarly, and outreach activities to promote the development of knowledge and skills related to construction management. The Department’s facilities include over 36,000 square feet in dedicated labs, classrooms, and offices to support its research, teaching, and service mission. The Department of Construction Management is located on the main campus of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Position Summary

The Outreach & Student Recruitment Coordinator within the Department of Construction Management (CM) in the College of Health and Human Sciences is a full-time, twelve-month, administrative professional position.

This position plays a critical role in promoting undergraduate student recruitment and success through a variety of activities including outreach and promotion of the construction industry, career paths, and CM major working closely with relevant department committees and entities both internal and external to the university.

The Outreach & Student Recruitment Coordinator is the point of contact for prospective students, their families, counselors, and other groups interested in our program. They work to increase student recruitment and retention, with a focus on creating access to higher education and providing excellent customer service. This position will identify and recruit quality students to the undergraduate program in alignment with department priorities. The Outreach & Student Recruitment Coordinator will provide advising for transfer and prospective students for the undergraduate major and minor. The Outreach & Student Recruitment Coordinator will work collaboratively with the CM advising team to provide innovative integrated services to support a successful collegiate experience for students. The position assists students in making critical transitions, developing academic plans, and connecting with campus resources. In addition, the Outreach & Student Recruitment Coordinator will propose, support, and implement summer outreach programs.

The Outreach & Student Recruitment Coordinator represents the department at events both internal and external to the university including giving presentations, tabling opportunities, and hosting interactive booths. This position coordinates and leads information sessions, tours, and group visits for various audiences.

Our department is focused on recruiting well-qualified students who will be successful in pursuing careers in construction management. The successful applicant needs to have a strong work ethic, a willingness to serve in a wide variety of roles as needed and dedication to the mission of the department. This position includes occasional travel and/or events in the evenings and/or weekends.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree

  • Experience working with middle school, high school, and/or college students (experience gained while working as a college student may be considered)

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and ability to develop and give presentations to groups of various sizes, demographics and backgrounds

  • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of issues facing students from various backgrounds

  • Must have access to reliable transportation to attend in-person events with supplies, have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

  • Availability to work flexible, non-standard hours, including some early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in construction management, student affairs, education, communications, marketing, or related areas

  • Demonstrated experience with developing and coordinating outreach and engagement programs in higher education or K-12 education

  • Customer service/client relations or similar experience, e.g., interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, coaching/mentoring

  • Professional work experience in student affairs, advising, career counseling, or student recruitment

  • Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish

  • Exposure to or experience in the construction industry or related field

  • Experience or ability to show initiative and independence as a self-motivated team player and leader with demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or other software programs for creating presentations, fliers, and promotional materials

Duty/Responsibility

  • Coordinate outreach, recruitment, and enrollment of prospective first year and transfer students in alignment with department priorities

  • Represent department at various outreach and recruitment events, opportunities, and perform duties as assigned. This will involve some travel and working occasional nights and weekends.

  • Develop and implement strategies to strengthen partnerships with high schools and community colleges

  • Market and coordinate university, college, and department events (such as Explore CSU , Exploring Majors, CM Information Sessions and Tours, etc.) as well as external events, with prospective students and their families in order for them to make an informed decision regarding a major in construction management.

  • Develop and manage recruitment budget.

  • Compile data and feedback to assess effectiveness and make recommendations for future events and visit initiatives.

  • Liaise with various offices across the college and university to successfully coordinate outreach activities.

  • Collaborate in the development of print, web-based, and social media marketing and materials.

  • Develop and deliver presentations, interactive workshops, tours, and activities to various audiences.

  • Mentor and advocate for students from various backgrounds and first generation students, including connecting students to appropriate on-campus resources.

  • Propose and implement initiatives in support of access, student success, and retention.

  • Plan and execute summer outreach programs as determined by department priorities.

  • Advise incoming and prospective students on academic requirements, scheduling classes, and administrative procedures related to academics for the Construction Management major and minor.

  • Assist with First Year and Transfer Student Orientations.

  • Recognize challenges and opportunities experienced by different groups of students and incorporate this perspective into developmental advising approaches.

  • Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of and referral to campus resources and opportunities.

  • Promote student involvement in departmental extracurricular (e.g. students clubs and competition teams) and leadership opportunities.

  • Develop a working knowledge of all university ( AUCC ) curricular requirements and institutional policies.

  • Maintain a welcoming environment and deliver consistent and accurate information.
