Work Unit|Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories

Faculty and staff at the CSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories are among the nation’s finest in their fields of expertise and offer comprehensive diagnostic services. The Colorado State University Diagnostic Laboratory system provides timely, accurate and pertinent animal disease diagnostic services and educational outreach to veterinarians, animal industries and animal interests. The Diagnostic Lab strives to meet the goals of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences ( CVMBS ) and the University through research and diagnostics to develop new approaches to disease identification, investigation, prevention and through education of professional veterinary medical, graduate and post-doctoral students.

Position Summary

The National Park Service is seeking a student or recent undergraduate in the fields of Database Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Machine Learning to research and design a system for optimizing conservation outcomes for Integrated Pest Management. Must have experience in database programing (including Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, Power Apps, and Power BI), web scraping and crowd sourcing techniques, and the ability to communicate with both data programmers as well as subject matter experts in the areas of invasive species, pest management, and biocontrol techniques. Knowledge of pesticides and their application is valuable but not required. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential. Incumbent will work with full-time staff at the National Park Service (e.g., biologists, computer programmers, project managers, and data management staff) to suggest, research, develop, and if possible, implement a pilot system for gathering pesticide use data and making that data useful for informing on the ground management decisions in NPS units. Must be available 5-20 hours per week during the school year and 10-20 hours per week during the summer. $20-30/hour commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; Colorado State University Diagnostic Laboratories will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
