Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The College of Natural Sciences studies the foundation sciences – we ask fundamental questions and apply our knowledge to every field of study. Consisting of 8 departments and 10 centers, our college is a leader in research, teaching, and community engagement. The College of Natural Sciences’ Communications unit is responsible for telling the stories generated by our college. We work in collaboration with people from across the college and university to communicate with a wide variety of audiences using many different channels.

Position Summary

The Multimedia Communications Manager in the College of Natural Sciences is a 12-month, full-time Administrative Professional position responsible for projects related to communication with external and internal constituents, including prospective students, current students, alumni, donors, faculty, and staff. The Multimedia Communications Manager manages social media strategic development and social media channels. This position has the ability to ideate and manage proactive communications projects, ability to make decisions regarding a portion of the communications budget, and management of student employees. This position will report directly to and work under the guidance of the Director of Communications. In collaboration with the college and departments, this position will be responsible for creating and managing content, including writing and editing, graphic design, photography and video. Successful applicants are committed to enhancing diversity through inclusive design, content, and language.

Please note, a signing bonus of up to $2,500 may be considered for successful candidates.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field.

  • 3 years of experience working in communications, marketing, journalism or related field.

  • Demonstrated experience translating technical subjects for a general audience, specifically science, technology, or mathematics topics.

  • Demonstrated experience communicating with a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Experience creating social media strategies that connect to broader organizational goals.

  • Exceptional skills in photography, videography, writing, and other content creation.

  • Experience managing student employees.

  • Experience gathering, analyzing, and reporting data.

  • Experience working within an established brand platform.

  • Experience explaining scientific topics to a broad audience.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects from start to finish.

  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external individuals and teams across different offices and functions.

  • Experience working with a content management system ( CMS ).

  • Demonstrated understanding of website and content accessibility standards.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Photoshop and InDesign).

  • Manage communications projects from start to finish

  • Develop content for Source, social media, websites, emails/newsletters, Elements magazine, and other publications

  • Graphically design communications as needed including flyers, posters, promotional items, and other materials

  • Track, analyze, and report data to support a data driven communications program
