Description of Work Unit

The Health and Exercise Science ( HES ) Department has 1100 undergraduate majors, 30 graduate students (about 2/3 PhD and 1/3 MS). Undergraduate majors follow one of two concentrations (Health Promotion and Exercise Science). There are 23 faculty members: 13 tenure-track or tenured and 10 contract and continuing assignment faculty. Faculty in HES conduct innovative research in state of the art facilities, with an emphasis on basic, translational, and clinical applications in the area of chronic and age-related diseases. We are committed to our goal of producing nationally and internationally recognized research programs and graduates that are focused on helping people protect and improve their health and quality of life throughout the lifespan. Research is supported by funding from the NIH , the American Heart Association, the National Cancer Institute, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and other federal, state, and industry sponsors.

The Human Performance Clinical Research Laboratory is a center for interdisciplinary research, training and outreach that contains 17,000 sq. feet of dedicated, state of the art research space with a full-time physician on staff and an in-house compliance/regulatory/safety team (https://www.chhs.colostate.edu/hes-hpcrl/). The department also has several community engagement programs including the Heart Disease Prevention Program, First Responder Testing Program, Fit Cancer, Adult Finess, Noon Hour fitness and a summer Youth Sport Camp Program.

Position Summary

The Heart Disease Prevention Program ( HDPP ) Research Assistant will participate in testing and data analysis for clients of the HDPP . This position will assist with other HDPP programs including the Cardiac One Risk Evaluation ( CORE ) program and assist the Director of the HDPP , faculty, staff and students in the department with lab organization, supply inventory management and other duties as assigned.

Position Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science-related discipline with 6 months of relevant professional experience

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

  • Basic CPR and AED certifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science-related discipline with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience or a Masters degree with at least 2 years of relevant professional

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification strongly preferred

  • Experience with maximal exercise testing and other types of health and fitness testing including skinfold measurement, maximal strength testing and submaximal exercise testing strongly preferred

  • Competency in 12-lead electrocardiography and rhythm interpretation strongly preferred

  • Experience with and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of research subjects and clients

  • General computer experience, database skills, and data graphing skills
