Work Unit|Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories

Faculty and staff at the CSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories ( VDL ) are among the nation’s finest in their fields of expertise and offer comprehensive diagnostic services. The mission of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory ( VDL ) is to provide timely, accurate and pertinent animal disease diagnostic services and educational outreach to veterinarians, animal industries and animal interests. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory will strive to meet the goals the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and the University through research to develop new approaches to disease identification, investigation, prevention and through education of professional veterinary medical, graduate, and post-doctoral students. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory processes over 120,000 accessions per year. The laboratory performs approximately 1,400 necropsies on a variety of domestic and exotic animals each year and evaluates over 30,000 histopathological slides for animal owners, veterinarians, and researchers.

Position Summary

This position will work on various grant projects for the VDL . For example, this position will work on the National Animal Health Laboratory Network ( NAHLN ) grant projects including: subawards distributed to NAHLN laboratories and fund the development of a Next Generation Sequencing Symposia, fund the development of an HL7 Messaging Symposia, fund an epidemiological investigation of avian influenza virus in dairy cows, and fund synthesizing the outcome of all projects in an impact assessment report.

This position will support grant projects as the project manager, including the impact assessment reports. This individual will understand the progress of all projects to synthesize outcomes in support of the Project Coordinator to demonstrate the importance of these funds.

Position Minimum Qualifications

  • DVM (or equivalent)

-Data science experience

-Experience working in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory

Preferred Qualifications

NAHLN laboratory familiarity preferred.

Duty/Responsibility

This position will be responsible for collecting data that qualitatively and quantitatively captures progress across grant-funded projects. This requires comprehensive communication with all potential project leaders and primary investigators. Foresight will be required to determine data collection points throughout the development of projects. Trends across projects will need to be identified and explored. Data collection and analysis should focus specific activities of importance per grant agreements and could include such things as standardized testing, personnel performance measures, security, biosafety and biosecurity, and laboratory preparedness. Results will highlight areas of success as well as those requiring further attention and development. All analysis outputs should be comprehensive, actionable, and presented in a format that is easily interpreted by diverse stakeholders.

The successful candidate will participate in all facets of data collection including:

·Survey development in collaboration with project leads, primary investigator, and contracted companies

·Designing, implementing, and supporting data collection protocols

·Identify key performance indicators and data collection timelines

·Organize and maintain qualitative and quantitative data for projects

·Contribute to and/or lead data analysis approaches depending on what the situation calls for

·Conduct statistical analysis into clear, concise visual aids, such as dashboards, charts, graphs, and tables, to effectively communicate insights

·Collaborating with projects’ team leads to interpret analysis results and support data-driven decision-making

·Identify data gaps

This individual will work closely with Grant Project Coordinators to draft required reports including impact assessment reports. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of all grant projects to provide a clear and cohesive vision across initiatives. The individual will provide strategic advisement to the project lead will be offered to foster alignment and synergy among projects. Findings will be effectively communicated to stakeholders in a clear, engaging manner, tailoring communication to both technical and non-technical audiences. Further, this position will support the administrative functions necessary to ensure smooth project operations and effective coordination across all funded initiatives. The role requires strong organizational skills to manage project timelines, maintain documentation, and facilitate communication among project leaders, the primary investigator, and stakeholders. Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential.

The successful candidate will participate in all facets of grant management including:

·Contribute to the development and drafting of reports

·Edit and revise written materials

·Collaborate with project teams to gather relevant data, insights, and narratives

·Ensure all written content aligns with organizational goals, messaging standards, and stakeholder expectations
