About the Work Unit
The Executive Director's Office (EDO) is the backbone of the Colorado Department of Public Safety, providing effective administrative and management services to the Department's operating divisions. The EDO includes the following:
The Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director – Oversees strategic direction and operations for the department.
Administrative Services Office - Provides division and department-level administrative and support functions encompassing accounting, procurement, budget, and logistics services (fleet, facilities, warehousing, material management and fabrication) to support the operations and programs of CDPS divisions.
Human Resources Office - Supports recruitment, hiring, evaluation, benefits management, personnel actions, payroll and all other human resources functions.
Compliance and Professional Standards Office – Develops policies, assesses and manages risk, and ensures compliance with state and federal requirements and professional standards.
Colorado Integrated Criminal Justice Information Systems – develops cost-effective information sharing services to provide access for criminal justice agencies while maintaining information security. CICJIS s a collaborative program designed to facilitate information sharing at key decision points in the criminal justice process. There are five participating CICJIS agencies: the Department of Corrections, Judicial, the Colorado District Attorney’s Council, the Division of Youth Corrections, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Colorado School Safety Resource Center – assists local schools and communities to create safe and positive school climates for pre-k through higher education schools in Colorado.
The Administrative Services Office provides internal administrative support to the Divisions within CDPS and include the following sections:
Chief Administrative Officer’s office
Accounting Services led by the Controller
Budget and Policy led by the Budget Director
Procurement led by the Purchasing Director
Logistics Services Section led by the Logistics Director
About the Job
The purpose of this position is to provide technical accounting support to DFPC. The position reviews various accounts payable expenses or invoicing related to fire billing.
All positions within the DFPC Support Services Section may be required to step in and assist other positions with workload. Although, every person has a primary focus at any given moment, the position could be reassigned to other functions within the unit based on workload and business need.
Key Responsibilities
Processing expenses and revenue
Position will review expenses and/or invoicing from wildland fire incidents. The position is responsible for assessing accuracy and adherence to state fiscal rules, CDPS policies, DFPC guidelines, federal incident business practices and National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) guidelines. Position will be required to identify and accurately assess the
viability of expenses/revenue. Position may work closely with DFPC program staff, EDO and/or external customers.
Examples of regular, ongoing decisions made by this position related to this duty:
Determine if expenses align with the rules, guidelines and practices set forth above.
Validate sufficient backup documentation has been provided to support the expense.
Compare backup documentation to reimbursement request information.
Review and interpret cost share / incident log information.
Make approval/denial decisions with ambiguous or limited/no backup documentation.
Other duties as assigned
Position performs other duties as assigned to achieve the mission and purposes of the Division and the Department. This position may move between functions, if assigned, including but not limited to processing expenses and/or revenue for payroll, travel, credit cards, equipment, cooperators, contractors and federal agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)
Option 1 (Work Experience):
Three years of experience with processing expenses and revenues..
Option 2 (Education Substitution):
Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
Must possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Must have excellent customer service and communication skills
Ability to provide sensitivity and discretion with respect to confidential matters.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous fire billing experience
Complex Accounts Payable documentation reviews
Experience using Excel at the intermediate level or higher
Experience in Google suites
Experience with CORE software
Experience in a governmental agency (state, county or local level)
Ability to work under tight deadlines
Accounts payable and/or accounts receivable experience
Previous work from home experience
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam, a fingerprint based criminal history search and reference checks.
