Description of Work Unit

As part of the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President, the Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness provides vision and leadership to the reporting, institutional research, assessment, strategic planning and accreditation activities of the institution.

Position Summary

This is a regular 12-month, full-time (or part-time considered) , administrative professional position reporting directly to the Director of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness at Colorado State University. This position is based in Fort Collins, with the potential for flexible work arrangements, including remote work. In-person preferred; hybrid and fully remote considered. This individual must be available for synchronous communication during normal business hours, typically 8 am to 5 pm Mountain Time.

The position has responsibility for a range of duties within the Office with a primary focus on 1) designing, developing, documenting, and configuring custom web-based reports and visualizations, 2) writing/editing complex SQL programming coding for use by others within the office.

The position is expected to use independent judgement to make sound decisions with limited supervision.

Required Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field

• At least one year experience creating BI / interactive reports and visualizations for constituent use employing tools such as WebFOCUS, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Shiny, Cognos etc

• Prior experience in writing complex SQL queries using Oracle’s client toolsets such as SQL Developer or PL/ SQL

• Demonstrated ability to learn and effectively apply business rules to programming and reporting projects

Preferred Job Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field

• Proven ability to work independently and as an integral member of a team

•Experience employing strong communication and collaboration skills to maintain effective team structure and ensure timely completion of projects

• Demonstrated commitment to data quality and integrity

• Demonstrated focus on customer/client in completing projects

• Prior professional IT experience working with higher education data or in an Institutional Research office

• Familiarity with database modeling and Business Intelligence;

• Experience with Power BI.

• With limited supervision, writes SQL to support other members of the office in completing ad hoc requests that inform institutional decision-making and/or meet external reporting demands;

• Writes complex SQL and PL/ SQL to extract, transform and load data from the university source systems and into an Oracle database;

• Applies data visualization concepts and techniques to design and develop business intelligence web-based reports that meet end-user needs;
