Description of Work Unit
At the VTH , we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. The Orthopedic Medicine & Mobility Department’s mission is to provide clients with prevention, diagnostics, and non-surgical treatment options for their pets. We aim to improve quality of life for companion animals of all ages by restoring mobility, alleviating pain, and improving fitness. The Mobility/Physical Therapy section of this department provides clinical evaluations, treatments, and home plan for patients ranging from critical care inpatients to elite canine athletes while providing clinical education to students, interns, and residents.

Position Summary
The CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital Physical Therapy Department is seeking an organized and detail-oriented assistant to help the team starting at twenty hours per week. Duties include printing treatment plans, preparing treatment areas including setting up and cleaning, stocking materials and supplies, posting veterinary student physical therapy clinical rotation information, and preparing the treatment board at the end of each week. This position will also assist with treatment modalities and underwater treadmill. Task responsibilities may increase if the completion of these basic tasks is exceptional. This position is for a candidate who is highly motivated, detail-oriented and is interested in animal physical therapy or veterinary medicine. Veterinary technicians are encouraged to apply.
Position Minimum Qualifications
One year of administrative experience
Preferred Qualifications
Veterinary Assistant or Registered Veterinary Technician experience preferred.

To keep our day operating smoothly, it is important supplies including blankets, towels, treats, vet wrap, and other needed materials are in the proper locations. The assistant ensures this is done at the start of each day.

Rehab sees 3-7 inpatients a day. Using the electronic medical record, assistant identifies inpatient orders, enters charges for the day, and starts medical documents by entering treatments and creating home plans based on templates.

Each day, the physical therapy department sees approximately 12 outpatients. To optimize efficiency, the treatment plans for each patient are printed before the patients arrive by the assistant. Modalities carts are cleaned and stocked, and treatment areas are set up by the assistant.

Communication between staff is important to an efficient and therapeutic day for the patients and staff. The whiteboard details the location of each staff member, along with the patients they are seeing. At the end of each week, the assistant will complete the whiteboard for the following week.

Duty/Responsibility
For patient safety, chemical levels in the underwater treadmill need to be balanced daily. Water chemical levels are checked in the morning by the assistant, and then adjusted as needed. The treadmill also needs to be drained and refilled, and filters cleaned on a regular basis.

The assistant may be asked to assist the physical therapist and technicians with treatments. This may include modalities including laser, ultrasound and TENS , along with manual therapy techniques. The assistant may also assist with therapeutic exercises and underwater treadmill.
