U.S. Army Reserve Command Small Arms Repairer in Fort Bliss, Texas

Summary About the Position: This is a Military Technician position with the 63rd Readiness Division, Equipment Concentration Site 87, located at Fort Bliss, Texas. This position requires an active membership as a Soldier in the Army Reserve before a start date can be set. Disassemble weapons to diagnose malfunctions. Repair small weapons by replacing obsolete parts and/or assemblies. Conduct operational checks and final inspections to ensure maintenance has been completed. Observe rules and regulations to ensure all safety and physical security standards are followed. Analyze unit deficiencies to determine required organizational training. Suggest corrective actions in accordance with unit policies and procedures. Use hand tools to make repairs and adjustments. Utilize measuring instruments to determine when parts are worn or damaged. Performs two level Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) to include periodic gauging. List repairs on appropriate forms to indicate needed repairs. Prepare reports on recurring equipment failures. Document inventory to maintain accountability of weapons. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Small Arms Repairer without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: initial inspection of small weapons to determine repairs needed; disassemble, repair, and replace components on small arms; final inspection to ensure repairs were completed correctly; use of hand tools, precision gauges and measuring instruments; perform weapon operational tests; provide training; and prepare reports. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort Required: Frequently lifts subassemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds. Often carries large assemblies or weapons weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing. Working Conditions: Works in shop buildings that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Stands on concrete floors or other hard surfaces for long periods. Exposed to oil, grease, and solvents when cleaning and lubricating weapons. Exposed to the possibility of minor cuts and bruises from tools and sharp edges of metal. Subject to noise when test firing weapons. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required Direct Deposit of Pay is required. This is a Materiel Maintenance Management Career Field position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary is based on the local prevailing rate. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest. Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 13 Months. Term appointment has the potential to be extended beyond six years up to eight years. Army employees who accept a time-limited appointments (to include employees with personal competitive status) will be separated at the end of the time-limited appointment date if the Not-to-Exceed (NTE) date is not extended.
