*Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) Part-Time *Ft. Belvoir, VA
Position Duties and Responsibilities:**
- Formulate a plan of care for the patient based on the assessment. The plan will include appropriate nursing interventions and expected patient outcomes.
- Prior to surgery, the nurse will review the patient history and physical and ensure that it matches the surgical consent.
- Intra-operative Phase: Circulating RN is responsible for delivery of nursing care during the intra-operative phase of the surgical intervention.
- Ensure the patient is safe and the principles of asepsis are upheld.
- Postoperative Phase: conducts a brief postoperative evaluation and documents any findings on pre-op/post-op document.
- Able to walk extensively, stand for long hours at a time, lift object greater than 30 lbs, and move freely for extended periods of time.
- Ensure that the body temperature of the patient is maintained by increasing the operating room temperature to a level high enough to prevent hypothermia (72-80 deg if necessary).
- Ability to react with alertness and skill in any emergency situation.
- Operate defibrillator, EKG machine and cardiac monitor when appropriate.
- Assess patients' condition for potential or life-threatening crises.
- Utilize the nursing process to develop individualized age-specific nursing care plans.
- Obtain patient medical and psychosocial history and pertinent family history and documents on the appropriate form.
- Implement prescribed physician orders and nursing care and documents in patient medical record.
- Administer medications with the knowledge of actions and usual dosages of commonly used drugs.
- Interpret pertinent lab values, notify physician of abnormalities.
- Transcribe or verify transcription of physician orders.
- Communicate pertinent patient data to charge nurse and/or physician as appropriate.
*Minimum Qualifications: *
Minimum of one (1) year operating room experience in a hospital setting or ambulatory surgery center within the last three (3) years.
Registered nurses shall possess an associate, diploma, baccalaureate and/or masters degree in nursing and must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing from at least one state or territory in the United States.
Successfully graduated from a nationally accredited Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree program in nursing and holds current certification a Registered Nurse (RN).
Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support.
Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
