Queens Community House Engagement Specialist in Forest Hills, New York

Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site, multi-service settlement house that serves the diverse population of Queens through a broad network of programs and services for Children and Youth, Adults and Families, and Older Adults. The Pathways program is seeking a qualified Engagement Specialist who is results-driven and will keep our program participants fully engaged in their pathway of choice however they will be the key person if participants change their career choice. The goal is to provide a seamless transition for participants of Pathways if they change paths.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet regularly with Pathways participants who decide to change their path for assessment and goal planning.

  • Develop a monthly newsletter that will be disseminated to the entire pathways program

  • Create regular email and text correspondence updating participants of social events scheduled.

  • Maintaining monthly contact with participants employed in the labor force

  • Researching and connecting participants to educational and vocational opportunities as related to their short- and long-term goals;

  • Conduct home visits following QCH home visit protocol, to reengage students;

  • Conduct personality and career assessments to help aid in career exploration;

  • Helps participants in times of crisis to obtain necessary services that support independence, including counseling, case management and housing assistance.

  • Develops relevant relationships and communicate effectively with schools, community partners, employers, and participants’ families.

  • Assist with the coordination of on-site information events and staff training;

  • Refer participants to additional QCH and outside services as necessary

  • Distributing retention incentives to eligible participants when applicable

  • Using motivational interviewing techniques as appropriate to help guide participants to goal achievement

  • Maintaining accurate client records in Salesforce; updating progress notes in Salesforce during and after each meeting with participants

  • Participate in training across the Pathways unit to include Career Advisement and Intake Specialist

  • Support job placement by informing the Career Coach of vacancies within the community and through personal networks

  • Attend Pathways monthly meeting to discuss critical cases and program data

    Qualifications:

  • Ability to connect with young adults

  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to produce clear and accurate case notes

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Work in the office at least three days a week

  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks effectively under pressure

  • Ability to work independently to effectively provide services remotely as needed

  • Must have high level of confidentiality, to handle sensitive and confidential situations.

  • Proven track record of excellent follow-through on assignments.

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience with an additional one or more years of relevant experience in workforce development.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and computer skills required.

  • Seeking an extremely outgoing, personable, and professional individual who can think creatively and critically about their approach to helping people overcome postsecondary barriers

  • Candidate will be a detail-oriented, self-starter who takes initiative and can get things done in a high-paced environment, and who understands the challenges and has the ability to support the needs of individuals

    Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Salary: $27.47 - $30.78 per hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday 9 am-5 pm
