The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of Fisheries exists to ensure that aquatic resources are sustainable for present and future generations of Louisiana citizens by providing access and scientific management.
This is a Biologist Manager position domiciled in Forest Hill, Louisiana. The position is responsible for managing all activities associated with producing and rearing multiple sport fish and forage species at Booker Fowler, Beechwood, Lacombe and Monroe State fish hatcheries. The position is also responsible for coordinating the transporting and stocking of these fish across the state of Louisiana, based on biological need and available resources. General supervision is received from the Program Manager on an as-needed basis. This position can require periods of ‘on-call’ work in order to maintain critical functions during certain times of the production season.

Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
This position is located in Rapides Parish.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs administrative functions in the area of responsibility, including correspondence, budget requests, inventory control, fleet management, and purchasing
Manages personnel: recommends hiring, promotions, annual merit increases; conducts performance reviews, employee training, counseling and discipline; approves time/attendance and leave requests
Develops and implements biological research and management activities for freshwater sport fish species
Coordinates all freshwater sport fish production and population enhancement activities in Louisiana and with other state or inter-jurisdictional resource management organizations.
Manages and coordinates all maintenance and repair needs across the Inland Hatchery system
Develops annual stocking and HACCP management plans for freshwater sport fish species
Analyzes data and prepares reports and papers for publication
Participates in national/state/local committees, and workgroups

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus six years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science; OR
A non-thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus five years of the required specialized experience; OR
A master's degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus four years of the required specialized experience.
