Job Title: Transportation Manager

Reports to: General Manager

About the Position:

Manages and coordinates the daily operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Implements operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to meet forecasted capacity needs. Manages relations with transportation providers to ensure the achievement of required service levels. This role requires effective collaboration with multiple administrative departments such as Safety, Accounting, Human Resources, and Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fleet Oversight:

  • Manage and coordinate the operations of a growing fleet of 55-60 vehicles across California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and future expansion.

  • Implement strategies for the efficient deployment and utilization of vehicle resources, with a focus on retail deliveries and residential new construction scheduling and dispatching.

  • Oversee repairs, maintenance and compliance with CAL-T and DOT registrations.

  • Ensure compliance with vehicle registration, insurance, motor carrier permits, etc.

  • Accident Investigation and Compliance:

  • Conduct thorough investigations of vehicle accidents and implement corrective training to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Establish root cause analysis tactics to reduce future accidents and compliment training.

  • Address citations promptly and routinely monitor vehicle/driver camera footage.

  • Safety and Training:

  • Develop and implement fleet safety protocols to reduce accidents and improve overall safety performance.

  • Provide training for drivers on safety protocols, regulations, and best practices.

  • Work in concert with EHS Manager to drive safety and training results cross departmentally.

  • Oversees Pull Notice and MVRs in compliance with insurance matrix.

  • Route Optimization:

  • Utilize route optimization software to enhance the efficiency of transportation operations.

  • Continuously evaluate and adjust routes to improve delivery timelines and reduce costs.

  • Determine truck sizes and capacities by location throughout each region.

  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Human Resources Management and insurance providers to manage worker's compensation claims.

  • Work closely with Human Resources, Safety, and operations departments to ensure seamless coordination and communication.

  • Collaboration on worker's compensation claims and resolution.

  • Facilitate the return-to-work process for injured employees.

  • Relationship Building and Cultural Integration:

  • Foster positive relationships with internal and external customers as defined by the company cultural norms.

  • Serve as a cultural tie-in, promoting the company's values of kindness and exceptional customer service.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five-years' experience in transportation management role.

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred (Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Transportation and Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field)

  • Proven experience in Transportation Management, preferably in a light manufacturing or warehouse environment

  • Familiarity with multi-state logistics regulations and compliance standards.

  • Strong investigative skills with the ability to analyze accidents and recommend preventative measures.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Empathetic leadership style with a commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive safety culture.

  • Relevant certifications, OSHA 30, Six Sigma Green Belt are a plus.

  • Fluent in all Microsoft Office applications

  • Bilingual, Spanish/English, desired but not necessary

Physical Requirements:

  • Be in good physical condition with ability to frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch for prolonged periods of time (8 hours or more a day).

  • Must be able to consistently lift 50 lbs.; Anything over 50lbs must be assisted.

  • Ability to reach, grasp, grip, carry, push and pull.

  • Must be able to work in various conditions that exist in a warehouse and outdoor environment: cold, heat, wind, dusty, noisy, etc.

Classification: Exempt/Full Time

Pay Range: $96k - $110k annually (DOE)

All candidates are required to pass a pre-employment drug screen following an offer of employment, as well as provide documentation of eligibility to work in the U.S.
