Where the Chemistry Happens…

BASF's Data Science Professional Development Program (PDP) provides highly motivated, mobile-minded current university students an opportunity to enhance their professional skills through a variety of diverse learning experiences. Participants will contribute to real-world rotational assignments within different domestic locations. They will explore career options and develop technical and professional decision-making skills, while fulfilling specific business needs. Participants also have the opportunity to assess their capabilities, skills, and interests and gain valuable exposure to BASF's culture, values, and decision-makers.

During the rotational program, you will learn how data science is applied to several domains by joining production, business, and research and development teams. This experience will allow you to gain exposure to different use-cases for data science and different problem-solving approaches. Additionally, you will build a global network with experts from many different fields and collaborate with individuals who have a diverse set of knowledge while generating data science solutions.

BASF encourages taking on new challenges while growing technical skills, and some tools you will work with and learn are:

  • Python and R

  • RShiny, Dash, Flask, and HTML

  • Git

  • SQL

  • Tableau and PowerBI

  • AWS, Databricks, and Azure

  • Virtual environments and Docker containers

Program Summary:

The incumbent will be ‘hands-on’ and will have the opportunity to lead high value projects, to execute deliverables during all phases of an analytics project, starting from project definition to completion.

Deliverables will include the development of the appropriate machine learning and optimization models, collaborating with members from other functions to gather and validate the necessary data, and presenting the project results and benefits to key stake holders and internal clients. Also, communicating the ideas and solutions to a broad community of non-mathematicians and acting as a driving force in international and interdisciplinary project teams will be a key success-factor.

APPLICATION IS AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS RECEIVING A BACHELOR’S OR MASTER’S DEGREE BETWEEN MAY 2024 AND JULY 2025.

  • As a highly motivated rising or recent graduate, you will participate in a 24-month cross-functional program with three, eight-month rotations in various technical areas, including: Manufacturing/Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Planning & Controlling, Marketing & Sales, and Research and Development (R&D)

  • Your ability to be mobile will be critical, as US locations include, but are not limited to: Michigan, North Carolina, Texas, Louisiana.

  • Successfully engaging across the business, you will be exposed to the leadership, technical, and digital aspects of BASF’s business and research operations

  • Upon your completion of the program, you may be offered placement within the organization in a variety of disciplines

  • Available start dates are June and August of 2025

Formula for Success...

  • Upcoming or recent graduates receiving a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Analytics/Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or other related Engineering majors between May 2024 – July 2025

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. now and in the future without restrictions or need for future sponsorship

  • Commitment to relocate anywhere in the U.S. during and upon placeoff from the Data Science PDP program. All assignments are in-person/hybrid

  • Demonstrated academic achievement (minimum GPA 3.2)

  • Programming experience in R and Python is required for some projects

  • Demonstrated previous leadership experience & academic achievement

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Basic knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data, and new technologies

  • Active participation in extra-curricular activities and on-campus organizations

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Outstanding work ethic and leadership potential

  • Project management experience is a plus

  • Previous internship/co-op experience is a plus

Pay Transparency

BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $88,000 - $92,000 . Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
