About the Opportunity

Under the direction of the Music Therapy Department Chair, the Recreational Therapist teaches classes/provides arts-informed therapies for all ages and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead therapy groups of 3-10 participants in local schools and community organizations.
  • Lead inclusive dance classes for individuals/groups of all ages with varying abilities.
  • Incorporate principles of mind, body, and spirit into the curriculum.
  • Complete attendance and clinical documentation of client goals and objectives in Therapy Notes Software, as well as required documentation for grant reporting in a timely manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of effective teaching methods for classes.
  • Maintain an effective rapport with participants, students, and families.
  • Work effectively with participants at varying levels of proficiency with varied goals.
  • Be an effective role model for participants, students, and families.
  • Attend Beyond Boundaries seminar and incorporate the approach as possible.
  • Work with the Music Therapy Department Chair to set objectives.
  • Cooperate with the Music Therapy Department Chair, administration, staff, and faculty.
  • Attend meetings as directed.
  • Be punctual and maintain regular attendance at all required functions.
  • Represent the school to students, families, and the community in a positive manner.
  • Respond in a timely manner to all communications to families, participants, and staff.
  • Adhere to all policies within the FIM Employee Handbook.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Dance Therapy OR other therapeutic discipline with a background in dance.
  • Board-certified in their therapeutic discipline
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal, written, and computer skills
  • Ability to work with all ages, skill levels, and a diverse student pool
  • Ability to maintain a calm and cheerful manner when under pressure
