Genesee Intermediate School District Occupational Therapist - K-12 in Flint, Michigan

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing inclusive-support services in a constituent school district program or a different service format depending on the needs of the student(s) and constituent districts.

Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
  1. Conducts occupational therapy evaluations of suspected students with disabilities or special education students through the referral or the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) process as assigned.
  2. Provides and/or coordinates occupational therapy services to students in an inclusion setting in the areas of fine/gross motor skills, daily living skills, perceptual motor skills sensory-motor skills, and sensory diets.
  3. Attends Child Study Team, MET, and IEPT meetings when assigned.
  4. Develops Plan of Care with goals and objectives for students assigned to the provider.
  5. Maintains appropriate student and other records. Utilizes technology to maintain student records and other reports.
  6. Consults and collaborates with staff, parents/guardians, and others regarding occupational therapy services and adaptive equipment.
  7. Assists students with adaptive equipment needs.
  8. Coordinates the activities of and instructs the certified occupational therapist assistant if assigned.
  9. Participates in staff meetings, staff development/special programs, school improvement teams, and planning committees as appropriate to the assignment.
  10. Logs services as delivered to individual students and submits Medicaid service logs in a timely manner.
  11. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.

Other Duties:

  1. Drives to and from district sites to deliver occupational therapy services.
  2. Represents the district on various community services agencies and professional organizations as appropriate to the assigned area.
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor's degree required; certification as Registered Occupational Therapist required.

Experience:

Prefer successful field/internship or employment in a school setting.

Skills/Other:

Must meet State of Michigan Department of Human Services Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Clearance as applicable. Ability to work effectively with children and adults individually and in a group setting. Ability to communicate both orally and in written communications.  Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency, as required skillsets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Demonstrated initiative and understanding in working with staff and parents/guardians. Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina for lifting students as required and for meeting the requirements of the position, including repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting, walking, kneeling, and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability; implementing behavior intervention plans and performing the essential job duties. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Ability to make decisions in accordance with board policies and administrative guidelines with minimum supervision.
