University of Michigan Flint Custodian (Temp) in Flint, Michigan

This is an 89 day temp position working 40 hours per week as a member of the custodial staff. 

Responsibilities*
  • Wet mop floors and stairways.
  • Operate vacuum cleaning equipment.
  • Clean and wax furniture, fixtures and furnishings.
  • Clean mirrors, interior and exterior glass.
  • Clean restrooms.
  • Stock restrooms with needed supplies.
  • Spot wash walls to remove such items as splash marks around sinks and fingerprints around light switches.
  • Collect and transport waste materials to a central location.
  • Report items in need of repair.
  • Sweep and dust floors and stairways.
  • Wet mop small areas of floor or stairs to clean up items such as spilled liquids or food.
  • Clean assigned area of work and equipment.
  • Unplug commodes, urinals and drains without dismantling fixtures.
  • Remove snow from entrances and spread ice melt if needed.
  • Coordinate and/or assign work to others
Required Qualifications*
  • Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent. 
  • Must be able to read, speak and understand English and be able to follow instructions. 
  • Must have a positive attitude with good customer relation skills. 
  • Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching etc. 
  • Must not have any type of lifting restrictions. 
  • Must be able to work in a team environment. 
  • Must have the ability to prioritize workload and be able to handle stress on a daily basis.
Modes of Work

Onsite The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
