We are searching for a full-time Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for the Emergency Department. Hospital Pharmacist experience required, Emergency Department experience preferred.

Position Summary:

Responsible for designing and brainstorming new educational programs and activities to help pharmaceutical employees expand their knowledge of clinical drugs. May be responsible for educating other health professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and health care providers about the clinical uses of a variety of medications. May also function as a pharmacist, providing prescribed medications and pharmaceutical products for adequate patient care according to professional standards and practices.

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1.

Encourages multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure the appropriate therapeutic use of clinical drugs resulting in optimal patient outcomes.

2.

Works within appropriate committees to ensure that drugs available are appropriate for the patient populations served.

3.

Monitors drug interactions and problems, ensuring safety of patients.

4.

Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.

5.

Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.

6.

Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; counseling patients on drug therapies.

7.

Develops hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs; training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals.

Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspections; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.

Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols and related procedures, rules, and regulations.

10.

Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

11.

Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Required Qualifications:

  • PharmD degree

  • Completion of pharmacy internship and licensure in the State of Michigan.

  • One year of hospital pharmacy experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASHP recognized certification.
