Job Summary

Reporting to the Center for Gender and Sexuality (CGS) Director, the Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordination and implementation of education, training and outreach programs in collaboration with (CGS) Staff.

Responsibilities*

Advocacy

  • Serves as the point person for the office on the development of support strategies for survivors of sexual violence (sexual assault, sexual harassment, intimate partner violence, and stalking);

  • Responsible for crisis intervention, personal advocacy and providing appropriate community referrals for students and or their families; serves as member of campus wide team for Title IX and Clery Act training, reporting, and policy implementation.

  • Make additional financial and other needed resources available to the Center for Gender and Sexuality through , review of emergency grants applications, collaboration on grant writing and other fundraising initiatives with emphasis on sexual assault prevention and awareness.

  • Maintain updated databases and resource and referral information for women LGBTQIA+ students, survivors of gender-based violence.

  • Meet with individuals, provide support, and make appropriate referrals to university offices and local agencies.

  • Work with students and student organizations in an educational and advisory capacity including attending meetings, providing advice on program development, publicity, and budgeting.

  • Assist students who are applying for the CEW+ Scholarship and maintain close contact with CEW+ staff in Ann Arbor.

  • Oversee the Critical Difference Grant application and selection process.

Education & Training

  • Creating, facilitating, coordinating, and evaluating programs with a sustained delivery model designed to build community and provide on-going and collaborative support to women and LGBTQIA+ students, staff, and faculty. Examples may include advising student organizations, facilitating the Sexual Violence Prevention and Healthy Masculinity Certificate Programs, leading Women Talk Wednesday, supervising the Peer Educator Program in collaboration with other relevant partners in Student Affairs, leading a dialogue series or awareness weeks on critical issues, collaborative reading and writing groups, etc.

  • Create, facilitating, and evaluating regular and on-going trainings and workshops for UM Flint students with an emphasis on topics related to gender, sexual violence, gender identity, reproductive justice, and sexual assault prevention and awareness.

  • Collaborate with staff on CGS Speaker Series, Women's History Month programming, Take Back the Night, Women's Leadership Conferences, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and other awareness campaigns.

  • Participate in recruiting, hiring onboarding, supervising, and evaluating CGS interns, and peer education staff.

Outreach

  • Building partnerships and collaborating with other UM and UM Flint departments, offices, committees, students, staff, and faculty as well as local community organizations, groups, and committees on the delivery of life stage appropriate educational programs and services that a) explore issues related to women, gender identity, reproductive justice, and gender and b) provide sexual assault and sexual violence prevention and awareness programs and services.

  • Develop programming and leading publicity efforts for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Dating Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month and other local, national, and international awareness raising and anti-violence campaigns.

  • Develop an innovative plan to create sustained interactions with sexual assault prevention and awareness support for hard to reach populations that may have unmet needs. This includes students who are non-traditional, student parents, underrepresented, low income, first generation, international, LGBTQIA+, men, women of color, etc.

  • Collaborate with other departments and committees to support institutional diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts on behalf of women and LGBTQIA+ students, staff, and faculty.

  • Help develop, implement, and assess all publicity and outreach efforts for CGS including the extensive mobilization and monitoring of online, textual and verbal communications in the active recruitment of students, faculty, and staff.

  • Collaborate with other University departments to ensure that all appropriate outlets are used to increase the reach of publicity materials and programs to intended audiences.

  • Attend university and community events to increase the visibility of CGS and its programs and services.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related field

  • 2 or more years experience providing direct crisis support to survivors of gender-based violence

  • 2 or more years of recent experience developing and implementing support programs for college/university students and/or working with sexual assault prevention and awareness programs and services.

  • Direct service experience and understanding of issues related to women and LGBTQIA+ individuals and sexual violence is required.

  • Working knowledge of intersectional feminism and outreach to people from diverse racial, economic, cultural and religious backgrounds.

  • Experience with various phases of program planning and evaluation.

  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Canva and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends will be necessary.
