Job Description

Come join our team of more than 70 full-time, part-time, and student staff representing five continents and 16 native languages! Be a part of an internationally recognized Education Abroad Office. The Center for International Education (CIE) at Northern Arizona University (NAU) has received the Paul Simon Award, and the Education Abroad unit within CIE has received the Heiskell Award. Additionally, NAU is ranked in IIE\'s Open Doors within the top 10 US institutions for year-long study abroad programs. Our office handles over 300 programs in more than 50 countries. We send students abroad for a year, semester, summer, winter, or spring break and offer students additional opportunities through exchange, provider, intern, and faculty-led programs based on their academic, financial, and personal needs. At NAU you will be able to work with a diverse group of students and partners. Our student body is nearly one-quarter Hispanic with a higher-than-average Native American population as well.

This position develops and implements program level policies and procedures regarding risk management in education abroad and international student recruitment consistent with NAU policies, overall CIE policies, as well as state and federal regulations to ensure efficient operations of the programs. The position also leads the design, development, implementation, and management of faculty-led study abroad program risk management protocols both in terms of general protocols and protocols for each program.

Program and Risk Management - 70%

Under the leadership of Vice Provost for Global Affairs, develop and implement program level policies and procedures regarding risk management in education abroad and international student recruitment consistent with NAU policies, overall CIE policies, as well as state and federal regulations to ensure efficient operations of the programs.

Leads the design, development, implementation, and management of faculty-led study abroad program risk management protocols both in terms of general protocols and protocols for each program.

Respond to emergencies in collaboration with the Director of Education Abroad.

Develops, implements, and maintains recordkeeping system and procedures regarding the general practices of risk management in both study abroad and international student recruitment which includes, but not limited to, gathering data, compiling information, and preparing reports.

Serves as the univers ty liaison to the Overseas Security Advisory Council, the U.S. Department of State, and diplomatic security resources.

Maintains destination specific ratings for NAU\'s risk designated scale and facilitates the travel risk assessment process for travel approval.

Conducts site assessments and recommendations for international operations and locations of strategic interest, as assigned by the Director of Education Abroad.

Coordinates 24/7 emergency communication, travel alerts, and assistance.

Develops emergency and incident response protocols, travel guidelines, and outlines best practices for health and safety.

Serve as CIE\'s knowledge and subject matter expert on risk management and mitigation at the program and operational level.

Incident tracking and data analysis for international travel.

Designs and leads health and safety orientation and other specialized training for faculty and staff leading an Education Abroad or other university managed international program.

Oversees the risk management and mitigation of the international recruitment related travel and its associated programs.
