Special Information

This position is a hybrid position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at both an NAU site, campus, or facility and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation.

Job Description

NAU\'s Office of Research Compliance is recruiting for an Institutional Review Board (IRB) Administrator to support their team. This position assists in the administration of the IRB process and procedures for human subject related research activities to ensure the rights of human participants are protected. Supports efficient operation of the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and IRB to review, approve, and monitor human research protocols in compliance with federal regulations and University policies. The IRB Administrator provides general administrative support and general accounting functions for the HRPP.

Administrative Support - 80%

Administrative duties include-

  • Initial point of contact for HRPP inquiries.
  • Maintains the IRB mainline, inbox, and online submission system.
  • Facilitates in-take and review coordination for the IRB review process.
  • Assists with administrative and business processes for IRB-related activities.
  • Gathers application information to assist in the evaluation of eligibility requirements, institutional guidelines, and applicable regulations in relation to the various elements of the proposed human subject research activities.
  • Assists with protocol review monitoring, procedure documentation and program improvement.
  • Assists with the review of application materials to ensure the project is submitted for IRB review in accordance with system, federal, and local requirements.
  • Assists with recordkeeping, tracking and archiving of IRB projects and related materials.
  • Assists in determining review type and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides support for meeting preparations, calendar and events.
  • Provides support in the development of training materials and presentations for colleagues, as needed.
  • Communicates to faculty, staff, and students the procedures for submitting human subjects research applications.
  • Provides administrative support for IRB outreach activities and educational programs.
  • Assists with administration of ClinicalTrials.gov basic account setup for new clinical trials.

Accounting - 10%

Accounting duties include-

  • Ordering office supplies.
  • Processing invoices.
  • Managing purchase orders.
  • Facilitate travel service requests and reimbursements.
  • Maintaining appropriate documentation of accounting data in accordance with policies.

Other - 10%

  • Assist in coverage for office.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in relevant field; and
  • 1 year of relevant experience; or
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Basic knowledge of IRB related policies an procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable local, state, federal, and university regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of IRB review and/or equivalent electronic management systems.
  • Basic knowledge of operations and organization of an Institutional Review Board.
