Intermountain Health CNA Student - Med/Surgical in Fillmore, Utah

Job Description:

The C.N.A. student learns how to accurately and compassionately act as a clinical support partner to assist the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. Caregivers in this role will become skilled at basic patient care skills including toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient care skills. Upon completion of an approved CNA program, will advance to a Patient Care Tech (PCT) or a Home Care Aide position at Intermountain. Students will be required to obtain C.N.A. certification within 150 days of being hired into the CNA Student role.

The C.N.A. student will attend a one-week course through Intermountain' s partner CCNA and complete clinical rotations required to sit for the exam.

The C.N.A. Student works a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays and nights and in various facilities, as needed.

Scope

The C.N.A. student will learn the job essentials for a PCT role which they will move into upon completion of passing exam.

  • CNA program through CC-CNA - May need to travel a few days during the program.

  • You must complete the program within 2-4 weeks. You will need to keep a timecard and stay in touch with your hiring manager each week as to ensure you get paid for your work. You will be paid an hourly rate $16.56 for your course work. Please keep your schedule flexible for clinicals during course completion.

  • Once you complete your CNA program, you’ll start working on your unit. Your manager will then promote you to the Patient Care Tech role starting pay $17.60, and you will have 150 days from the time you complete the CNA program to complete the state test and obtain your CNA certification.

Patient Care:

The C.N.A. must be supervised during any clinicals prior to obtaining C.N.A. certificate.

Prioritizes and delivers basic patient care which may include toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs.

Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.

Provides excellent customer service when responding to patient and family requests.

Reports and records patient care findings and data in a timely manner. Reports changes in the patient condition quickly and secures qualified assistance as needed.

Based on unit, may also be responsible for telemetry duties.

Can function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patient, taking care of patient care needs, and involving other members of the patient care team as needed.

When working on a clinical unit, may be required to take medications from the delivery system to the RN.

Collaboration:

Collaborates and consults with RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team for best patient care.

Demonstrates effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organization.

Performs non-nursing duties as delegated (e.g., cleaning, stocking, answering phones, clerical support, providing directions).

Implements plan of care as delegated.

Performs assigned duties within Scope of Practice. Performs specialized procedures with skill validation and according to regulatory standards. Fosters a safe environment by complying with the safety policy and taking appropriate action in an emergency.

Minimum Qualifications

Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers is required and while preferred upon hire, will be obtained as part of the CNA student program.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • and -

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

  • and -

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • and -

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
