The requisition will be used to fill a 40 hour/evening shift General Maintenance Worker position at the Minnesota State Academies in Faribault. It is open to qualified bidders and to qualified applicants simultaneously.
This is a 9-10 month per year position. The work schedule is based on the school calendar and includes work in the summer months (July) during summer school.
Job Duties:
The cleaning and maintenance of various academic and/or residential/dormitory buildings:
Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum dust mop, carpet extraction, strip old and apply new finish to floors as required
Empty and clean trash receptacles and recycling containers
Clean classrooms
Clean restrooms and provide necessary tissue and hand cleaning supplies and maintaining necessary supplies on hand
Clean outside of building entrances, sweeping, removing snow and ice and emptying trash containers;
Maintain loading dock as necessary.
Move furniture and/or equipment within and between buildings
Maintain all equipment and tools in proper working order
Perform minor maintenance work on equipment and buildings
Assist with the setup of special events.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.
Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.
Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
Ability to prioritize work and be flexible during frequent interruptions
Preferred Qualifications
Good communication skills (including sign language) to interact daily with students and staff at the Minnesota State Academies
Experience working with deaf/hard of hearing and/or blind individuals.
Physical Requirements
To be in physically good health along with demonstrated ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Physical health and endurance should allow the employee to frequently bend, stretch, stoop, stand, squat, crawl, walk and be able to shovel snow and use snow blowers/snow removal equipment as needed.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a daily basis and occasionally up to 50-80 pounds.
