Your Opportunity

Our Lead Construction Manager will support Highway Heavy and Municipal clients’ and project goals during the construction phase of a highway heavy or municipal project to ensure costs, schedule, documentation, and quality standards are met. You will directly lead team(s) to accomplish these goals and objectives. Your technical knowledge and team-focused approach will enhance our mission to set the standard in our field for exceptional client service and professional excellence, as we grow to better serve our highway heavy focused and municipal clients and provide greater opportunities for employee growth and satisfaction.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Primary areas of responsibility generally include North Dakota, South Dakota, and Western MN.

  • Assist the Program Management/Construction Management (PMCM) Team Lead in identifying, hiring, or assembling staff that are focused on highway heavy (HH) and municipal projects and prepared for the unique challenges that these projects hold.

  • Supervise and Mentor junior to senior level staff for HH and Municipal projects.

  • Inspect and document contractor’s work for conformance with the approved documents and/or ensure staff are performing these tasks.

  • Responsible for the establishment and implementation of the office procedures as they relate to the administration of construction contract with some direction from Supervisor and/or Team leader.

  • Implement project controls for distribution and record keeping of construction drawings, construction contract correspondence, technical records, and other required project documents.

  • Thoroughly understand HH client records keeping requirements and systems and be able to mentor staff for successful use of the same.

  • Monitor and document contractor’s work for compliance with project safety standards.

  • Lead and Mentor a team(s) of staff working under your supervision.

  • Review certified payrolls (manual or electronic (e.g. LCPTracker, AASHTOWare)) and mentor designated staff on same.

  • Coordinate testing on projects directly or through other project leads.

  • Coordinate project construction staking directly or through other project leads.

  • Review or ensure the review of shop drawings and submittals.

  • Conduct or participate in regular (weekly, bi-weekly, etc.) construction meetings with contractor, owner and stakeholders.

  • Ensure preparation monthly or semi-monthly payment requests directly or indirectly.

  • Prepare or assist in the preparation and issuance of change orders on contract.

  • Conduct field evaluations and assessments as required.

  • Coordinate with the owner, the contractor and the design team or direct project leads to the same.

  • Effectively address project issues in the field and coordinate solutions with the Contractor, clients, and project personnel.

  • Perform constructability review on plans and assist in the preparation of project documents and cost estimates.

  • Perform final inspections as necessary.

  • Responsible for maintaining training/certification records of staff and requirements for key and target clients including those listed above. Develop and maintain a training plan for all staff.

  • Assist Supervisor and/or Team Leader with client contact, staffing forecasts, project budgeting and project development. Responsible for some key client development and to assist Team client development goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience with construction principals, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions.

  • Understanding of construction surveying and staking procedures.

  • MNDOT, NDDOT, SDDOT, and/or WISDOT Certifications preferred.

  • Must have FHWA and DOT documentation experience.

  • Experience with the use of AutoCAD or Microstation.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.

  • Must have strong communication skills, verbal and written.

  • Must be able to work cooperatively and efficiently in a team setting.

  • Must be detailed oriented.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Education and Experience

Four-year degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or Civil Engineering or equivalent demonstrated experience.

10 years of highway heavy construction Inspection/Construction Management experience or evidence by work experience to effectively deliver on the requirements for this position.

Supervisor and Staff Development experience.

Position will primarily work in a field setting; may require some office work. Some travel (up to 50% average) may be required.
