Mathtech, Inc. Controller in Falls Church, Virginia

Mathtech is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controller to join our finance team. The Controller is responsible for financial planning and reporting and ensuring compliance with financial and tax regulations. This position is based out of our headquarters in Falls Church, VA.

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of finance best practices and the highest level of ethical standards. They should also be self-driven with a passion for finance and continuous learning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for month-end, quarterly and year-end closings.
  • Manage general ledger and reconcile accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Prepare and manage financial reports ensuring timely and accurate reporting and compliance with legal requirements and accounting standards (GAAP).
  • Review financial transactions and statements for accuracy and compliance.
  • Develop and implement financial controls and policies to safeguard company assets and comply with financial regulations.
  • Manage corporate tax obligations and reporting, ensuring compliance with tax laws and optimizing the company's tax position.
  • Collaborate with the finance team on finance, accounting, and payroll activities.
  • Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
  • Prepare monthly management reports to present financials to the management committee.
  • Conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations to management for improvement.
  • Provide financial information and support for the administration of the company's retirement plans, including ESOP, Profit-Sharing 401(k), NQDCP, and Pension.
  • Review ESOP financial reports for accuracy and compliance and coordinate the stock valuation process with existing external consulting firm.
  • Perform financial risk assessments and manage the company's business insurance portfolio to align with the company's risk profile.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and internal teams for annual audits.
  • Manage relationships with banks, investors, and other financial institutions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and changes in financial regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in finance and accounting field.
  • Highly proficient with Deltek Costpoint or similar financial management software.
  • Government Contractor and/or ESOP experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of financial concepts and accounting principles.
  • Proficient in MS Office with advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
