JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the Principal Design Engineer spearheads the planning, design, and analysis of aircraft cabin interiors equipment and components. This pivotal role involves tackling intricate projects, often necessitating the development of innovative products, processes, or techniques. The engineer evaluates the feasibility and robustness of proposed engineering tests, products, and equipment, leveraging a comprehensive understanding of specialized engineering principles, theories, and concepts. This position demands a proactive approach to interpreting and applying cutting-edge advancements, ensuring continuous advancement in aerospace engineering.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes to successful project completion by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard material, and difficult coordination requirements.

  • Coordinates project activities with other operating or engineering units to facilitate participation of appropriate staff in project completion.

  • Initiates and maintains design data throughout the technical maturity phases.

  • Provides technical leadership to a group of temporarily assigned engineers and technicians.

  • Reviews project-related documentation to ensure its accuracy.

  • Generates artifacts, reports and design reviews to provide objective evidence of compliance to requirements.

  • Participates in professional organizations to maintain current knowledge of technical innovations.

  • Assists in determining project objectives to contribute to the development of a comprehensive project design.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications you must have:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering from four-year college or university; and at least 8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Design knowledge base includes, but is not limited to, fluid power handling equipment such as actuated or manual valves, pumping equipment, high speed blowers or fans, plumbing elements, thin-walled pressure vessels, and fluid/pneumatic seal designs.

  • Experience with interpreting and creating equipment specifications, specifying and conducting verification testing, and generation of qualification and certification documentation related to Chapter 38 Water and Waste equipment and systems, or similar cabin equipment.

  • CAD modeling of parts and constraint assembly, with associated detail drawings and layouts.

  • ANSI Y14.5 and working familiarity with GDT.

  • Tolerance stack ups – fits and clearances.

  • Design of mechanical components, and fastening methods.

  • Working experience utilizing Siemens NX CAD software, Teamcenter PLM, Altium or equivalent PCB layout tool.

  • Working experience in development and integration of aircraft equipment and electro-mechanical systems.

  • Working experience with manufacturing processes, but is not limited to machined elements, forging, casting, injection molding, thermal forming, and sheet metal fabrications.

  • Working experience with simulation tools such as CFD and FEA.

  • Working experience with Labview or other data acquisition systems.

  • Working knowledge of aerospace materials, processes, and finishes.

  • Working knowledge of electronic discrete and surface mount components.

  • Hands-on experience with assembly, troubleshooting, and testing.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
