About the Position:

 

The MBS is a relatively small unit in terms of permanent staff and manages one or the larger and more complex recreation programs in the Northwest. This position serves as the recreation planning specialist for the Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest: provides professional advice and support in the planning, designing, development, implementation, and evaluation of recreation program/project activities and provides recreation planning expertise to the unit. The MBS is actively engaged in several recreation and related planning efforts from Comprehensive River Management Planning to collaborative trails planning at the watershed scale, to planning to support implementation of National Forest Foundation Treasured Landscape Initiatives, Innovative Finance feasibility studies, and potential outyear GAOA implementation.

 

The MBS relies on effective partnering and grants for over 50% of program accomplishment.

This position develops and maintains critical external cooperative relationships with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, conservation groups, private foundations, and others interested in partnering with the Forest Service.

 

The MBS strives to work as a unified unit. We actively coordinate across Ranger Districts and maintain strong relationships between Districts and with the Supervisor's Office. A successful candidate in this position will be adept at collaborating and will also be responsible for coordinating collection of recreation site, trails, wilderness, visitation and other data, and ensuring recreation sites and facilities databases are up to. 

 

We cultivate strong relationships with Forest Service Research partners, as well as with local Universities. An expectation for applicants, is a demonstrated ability to utilize Forest Service data sets from NUVM to INFRA, in conjunction with current academic and agency research, and to apply these data sources to solving current and emerging recreation challenges.
