Job Description Summary
CMC Raw Material Industrialization Automation & Process Controls Engineer leads the management of instrumentation and process control systems throughout the lifecycle of equipment. This role will collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering functions to specify, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve process control and automation systems.
Seeking a highly motivated, hands-on automation & process controls engineer to support advancing CMC raw material processes and equipment in the CMC Development Lab. This role is part of the CMC Raw Material Industrialization team based in Evendale, OH.
Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities:
Identify, evaluate, develop, introduce, and manage engineering solutions for process automation and control system technology needs. Includes operability, setting of limits, cycle optimization, control logic, control related software, instrumentation, software algorithms, and feedback to control the performance of devices, subsystems, and systems
Lead and support automation projects including application of Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs)
Manage and improve Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
Validate and troubleshoot field devices, instrumentation systems, communication networks and interfaces
Implement CMC Process Control Technology Roadmap projects
Fix bugs, provide enhancement and upgrades to the control system – from the HMI to the controllers. Enhancements and upgrades include managing both software and firmware upgrades, as well as implementing new technology
Assist engineers, specialist, and technicians in the lab in troubleshooting equipment and process upsets
Participate in Equipment Design Reviews and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)
Lead Problem Solving
There may be up to 20% travel required
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum 10 years of Process Controls experience)
Minimum of 5 years of Automation or Process Controls experience
Desired Qualifications:
Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude (PLC’s, control systems)
Knowledge of distributed control system (DCS) architecture and experience in configuring, documenting, troubleshooting PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems
Fundamental understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) systems
Knowledge and experience in safety instrumented systems (SIS)
Experience in multiple control system platforms
Experience with Proficy Cimplicity, Proficy Historian, Factory Talk View
Ability to document, plan, and execute development programs
Hands on experience in technical troubleshooting
Ability to effectively influence others. Demonstrated support of multi-disciplinary teams and project groups
Disciplined, self-driven, can work independently without supervision; shows initiative and is proactive
Demonstrated ability in managing projects across functions
