Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position spends more than 50% of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.

This is a management position that supervisees the School Health Program. Work is performed independently in accordance with State DOH Rules & Regulations, and the Lake County Health Department policies, procedures, and standing medical orders.

This position is the School Health Coordinator who works closely with the coordinator of student health services, between staff and other administrative or consultative personnel and the schools, students, and the community. Responsible for hiring, monitoring, and any disciplinary actions for school health employees. This position works with Preparedness for Special Needs Shelters (training staff, special needs applications).

Will coordinate with answering service monthly and developing on call nursing schedule .

Develops, organizes, and directs School Health Program. Reviews daily activities to assess workloads. Makes out monthly schedules of work assignments for staff. Works closely with district school coordinators and program managers in planning, promoting, and coordinating school health services. Communicates by oral and written reports of special activities to supervisor.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum –

  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural

  • Current valid driver’s license or State ID. If out of state a Florida driver's license or State ID will be required within 30 days of hire

  • Current Florida Registered Nursing License in accordance with Florida Statute 464

    Preferred –

  • Experience performing duties in a School Health setting to include but not limited to children immunizations, vision, and hearing screening

  • Computer experience including the knowledge, skills, and abilities in software programs to include but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Clinical database, and data entry

  • Experience working with electronic medical records in a clinical setting

  • Experience with the State of Florida immunization requirements and required documents for school entry

  • Experience speaking, writing and reading the Spanish language

  • CPR and First Aid certified

  • Able to lift 30 pounds

  • Skill in the use of medical and testing equipment and instruments used in providing nursing care

  • Ability to administer medications and treatments

  • Ability to interpret and follow medical instructions

  • Ability to observe patients’ symptoms and reactions to treatment

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
