About the Position

We are actively seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our team in this newly created Administrative Assistant role.

If you have experience in providing general program and office support, coupled with a keen eye for detail and a strong sense of organization, you are the ideal candidate we are searching for. You will be responsible for a range of tasks that will challenge and stimulate your professional growth, such as producing a dashboard of deaths in Lane County, providing up to date metrics monthly, working alongside cross functional teams with medical professionals, law enforcement officials, and attorneys, in an extremely fast-paced environment. Day to day the work will range from coordinating appointments and managing correspondence to assisting with data entry and maintaining records, your contributions will be vital to the success of our team.

About the Division

Christopher J. Parosa is Lane County's elected district attorney. His office is responsible for the prosecution of all crimes in Lane County Circuit Court.

Divisions in the District Attorney's Office include: Criminal, Family La w (Child Support Enforcement); Juvenile; Death Investigations; and Victim Services.

Our Mission: Strive to improve public safety and quality of life by prosecuting the guilty, protecting the innocent, securing the appropriate support for children and families, and determining the cause and manner of death in all cases of traumatic or unattended death.

Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm

QUALIFICATIONS

Training:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by course work in business, personnel or public administration or a related field.

    Experience:

  • Three years of responsible experience providing complex secretarial or administrative support to management.

    An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, 365, Excel, and Word.

  • Typing speed of 60 WPM.

  • Demonstrated experience communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of State public record laws related to medical examiner records.

  • Emotional intelligence in dealing with grieving families and individuals.

  • Cultural competency in dealing with partnering agencies, the media, and legal teams.

  • Ability to prioritize and maintain independent workflow while working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Adaptability to sudden changes in work volume.

  • Experience working in stressful environments with the ability to handle exposure to graphic media content.

    Special Requirements:

  • Interview process will include role-playing scenarios consistent with the type of work individuals may be exposed to in this role.

Health insurance coverage becomes effective the first of the month following your first 30 days as an eligible employee.

Medical/Rx/Vision - Lane County offers medical, prescription and vision exam coverage for you and your eligible dependents. The plan options and costs per month for 2018 are outlined below:

If you enroll in the HDHP the County will contribute to your HSA: $1,500 (individual) or $3,000 (family) annually. This amount is prorated based on date of hire.

    Some content of the work for this position includes investigations and photographs of suicides, homicides, accidents, gunshot wounds, stabbings, drug abuse, blunt force trauma, dismemberments, infant deaths, child abuse, and other disturbing areas. Please describe any significant emotional or sensitive professional situations you have worked through in the past, and how you effectively managed your stress and emotional/physical response when doing so.
