Whitcraft LLC Forge Process Engineer Euclid, Ohio

Position Summary: Provide technical support and leadership to the shop floor for the manufacture of forged products (closed die - press forging) that meet all engineering and manufacturing objectives. Position reports to Forge Business Unit Manager. In addition, engineering tasks may be assigned and reviewed by the Engineering Manager. Essential Functions: Work with Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality department personnel using a hands-on approach to troubleshoot and resolve problems that occur in all aspects of part production in the forge shop. Includes active involvement during shop floor development on new program introductions (NPI). Assist with daily forge production problems to maintain a smooth workflow and serve as a team member in support of meeting production schedules. Coordinate efforts to ensure that forge tooling is working properly. Work with design engineers, toolroom personnel and outside vendors if modifications are required. Provide tool design support as needed. Plan and create processes and work instructions (Engineering approval documents, shop routers, tool lists, CAD operational sketches) required to manufacture our forged products. Utilize CAD software for engineering layouts and analysis. Establish dimensional criteria and manufacturing tolerances. Interpret customer drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with requirements. Work with Quality in verifying raw material, heat treating and NDT processing. Maintain Engineering documentation revision control as related to process changes and work instructions. Provide quoting and estimating for new and revised forgings. Includes determining operation sequence, special processes, input weight/stock size and required tooling. When necessary, work with design engineers to interpret and analyze customer CAD model information. Identify and implement continuous improvements related to forging methods and operations. Support and participate in Kaizen initiatives. Qualification Requirements: Associate or bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering. Experience working with and providing technical support for processes, tooling and equipment that involve forging or forming of materials. Minimum 5 years' experience in the metal working industry. Desired Characteristics: Possess excellent communication and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staffing. Strong mechanical background as it relates to metal manufacturing. Proficient in CAD with an understanding of 3-D geometry related to complex surface definition. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Physical Demands: Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking. Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
