As the Construction Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), you will play a critical role in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment on construction sites. You will assist in implementing safety programs, conducting inspections, and providing safety training to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and company policies. Your dedication to safety will contribute to the successful completion of projects while prioritizing the well-being of all personnel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of site-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APPs) and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHAs) for construction projects in compliance with federal, state, local, OSHA, and EM 385-1-1 regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and compliance issues.
  • Provide safety training and orientation to workers, subcontractors, and visitors, emphasizing proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations, and take corrective action as necessary to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Participate in accident investigations, document findings, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with safety requirements, including fall protection, scaffolding, excavation, and electrical safety.
  • Review subcontractors' safety plans and procedures to verify alignment with project requirements and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and other safety-related activities.
  • Assist in the coordination of safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other safety-related activities to promote awareness and communication of safety issues.
  • Stay informed about changes in safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices, and assist in communicating updates to project teams.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections of the construction site to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance with safety regulations.
  • Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with project-specific safety plans, OSHA, EM 385-1-1 regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks with construction crews to discuss safety procedures, hazards awareness, and accident prevention.
  • Assist in investigating accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Review and follow up on subcontractor safety plans, work permits, and safety documentation to ensure alignment with project safety requirements.
  • Provide support to subcontractors, construction teams, and project management regarding safety protocols and procedures.
  • Document safety observations, inspections, and incidents using appropriate reporting tools and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • OSHA 30 Hour for Construction Certificate
  • EM 385-1-1 24 Hour Fall Protection Competent Person Certificate
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety or related field
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EM 385-1-1 regulations and construction safety standards
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
