UPMC Patient Care Technician, 5 South Cardiology in Erie, Pennsylvania

UPMC Hamot is hiring a patient care technician to join our 5 South Cardiology unit!
This position is full-time, shifts ranging from 7pm-7am or 11pm-7am.
Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Responsibilities:
Provides patient care, assists with procedures and daily activities, physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
Provides feedback to RN, reports changes in patient status.
Performs core nursing assistant tasks (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care) and at least four additional tasks (phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal).
Reports equipment malfunctions, communicates effectively with other departments, maintains professional relationships.
Contributes to unit activities (responding to call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients).
Receives feedback, identifies learning needs, improves knowledge and skills, participates in self-review.
Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction, applies/removes restraints per protocol.
Communicates clearly with healthcare team, understands cultural diversity, supports workplace safety, maintains productive relationships.
Suggests and supports departmental changes, assumes responsibility, supports projects and quality initiatives.
Documents in medical records, performs work timely and productively, completes clerical functions.
Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills (phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tubes clamping/removal).
Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent.
One of the following: 1 year of general healthcare experience, 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days, enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with one clinical rotation, or a bachelor's degree in health sciences.
Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class. Successful completion of basic information system training.
Microcomputer experience preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills.
EMT/Paramedic or enrollment in EMT/Paramedic program preferred.
Limited access to medication distribution to nurses.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
ACLS preferred
