The Actors Fund Home Unit Secretary in Englewood, New Jersey

The Actors Fund Home, an assisted living, skilled nursing, accredited dementia care and sub-acute rehabilitation center located in Englewood, NJ, and a recipient of a CMS Five Star Rating seeks a Full-Time Unit Secretary to perform clerical & secretarial day to day duties and maintain medical records

JOB DUTIES:

  • Screen and direct all incoming persons and telephone calls promptly and accurately; answers routine telephone inquiries.

  • Ensure that the call bell system is answered promptly.

  • Responsible for purchasing and maintaining par levels of medical supplies for the Nursing department and for the processing of invoices.

  • Assist Nursing department in coordinating re-admissions for the Nursing Home and Broadway on Hudson by asking hospital/discharging facility for medical records

  • Circulate these records to the Nursing Supervisor and Pre-Admission group

  • Assemble charts for resident admissions and re-admissions; keeps charts organized

  • Prepare paperwork when 911 is called for a resident; and assists the nurse with any other necessary emergency protocols.

  • Ensure all discharged charts contain necessary signatures from the interdisciplinary care team

  • Ensure information is as outlined by current Nursing Home guidelines, is included.

  • Make sure discharged charts are completed, and then scan them to Docuware.

  • Assist nursing with scheduling of x-ray procedures, lab pickups and scheduling of doctor appointments for residents.

  • Perform audits as directed by the DON with nursing equipment and supplies.

  • Perform other job duties as directed by the DON.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalency certification

  • At least 2 years of experience working in healthcare.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Possess effective interpersonal skills in dealing with residents, co- workers, families and various health professionals.

  • Be adaptable to change and be able to deal with emergencies.

  • Frequently pushes, twists, stoops, bends, climbs stairs, reaches at above or below shoulder height. Must be tactful and courteous with residents, families, practitioners, co-workers and others

  • Must be able to lift, move, and carry supplies up to 25lbs

  • Must be able to work beyond the normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have an understanding of, affection for, and a desire to work with the aging.

  • Some knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

This is a full-time hourly position based in The Actors Fund Home in Englewood, NJ. The successful candidate must be able to cover assigned shifts as needed, including holidays.
