Purpose:The Specialist - Information Technology will design, implement, and support technology initiatives. To accomplish these tasks the Specialist - Information Technology will coordinate with technicians and work closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.

Responsible to:Director of IT Operations

Essential Functions:

  1. Serve as a contact person for technology questions and service needs.
  2. Work effectively in cooperation with district personnel to insure a consistent standard of excellence for technology support.
  3. Assist building staff, students, or others with technology support instruction both onsite and remotely via management software or telephone.
  4. Assist with installation and maintenance of gSuite, Active Directory, Azure, MDM Management, and future SAAS platforms.
  5. Provide high level support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for district hardware and software.
  6. Participate in / provide training for district staff as necessary to assure maximum efficiency with respect to the operation of district technology equipment/software.
  7. Assist with the inventory of technology equipment and supplies.
  8. Assist with installation, maintenance and support of district projects as assigned.
  9. Maintain advanced knowledge of student and staff data systems.
  10. Complete certifications supporting district infrastructure.
  11. Track technology work requests/projects. Complete or refer to appropriate personnel as needed.
  12. Obtain, gather, input, and organize pertinent data as needed for technology requests/projects.
  13. Supervise small teams to achieve district technology goals and objectives.
  14. Develop strategies for installation, maintenance, and support of district technology initiatives.
  15. Design and assess ongoing hardware/firmware needs to ensure efficient and effective use of equipment; review and make recommendations for purchase and/or upgrade of equipment/software to reflect decisions that will afford optimal growth.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.
  4. Occasionally requires climbing and balancing.
  5. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  6. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.\

General Responsibilities:

Support and facilitate the mission and vision of the Emporia Public Schools.

Support the ongoing development/revision, implementation, and monitoring/assessment of curriculum as outlined by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.

Obtain equipment, resources and materials through processes outlined by the Assistant Superintendent of Business.

Support policies and practices for licensed and classified personnel through processes outlined by the Associate Superintendent of Personnel.

Effectively utilize the expertise of other district professionals and/or outside consultants to support the efficient and effective operation of district processes/systems.

Provide for the safety/general welfare of students at all times.

Develop and maintain documentation relative to program funding (i.e. Grants and Awards).

Stay abreast of new technologies to facilitate and support student learning, data management, and communication with respect to best practice.

Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.

Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:

  • Acceptable use of technology
  • Sexual and racial h rassment
  • Child abuse reporting
  • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan

Communicate effectively with administrators, parents, staff, and community organizations with regard to student progress/needs.

Interact with students, parents, and staff in a professional manner demonstrating tolerance of individual difference
